Poll: Should the AR125 be rescued from history’s dustbin?

Guy Procter, 25 July 2012 07:30

When the Government relegated learners from 250s to 125s nearly 30 years ago, hopes of luring the next generation of riders hinged on two new two-strokes from Yamaha and Kawasaki. History has remembered the wrong one, argues Steve Farrell in this week's MCN. But is he right? Vote!

Suzuki reveals sub-£3500 Inazuma 250

Guy Procter, 19 November 2011 10:00

Suzuki has launched an all-new 250 called the Inazuma at the NEC show. An all-new 248cc parallel twin powers what Suzuki says is B-King-influenced design for newcomers and returning riders. No price, power or weight figures have yet been announced, but MCN understands Suzuki will seek to undercut both the Kawasaki Ninja 250R (£4182) and the Honda CBR250R (£3688). The ...

Triumph Tiger Explorer: 135bhp/£11,000ish

Guy Procter, 08 November 2011 13:09

Triumph's new Tiger Explorer will give its R1200GS rival a 135bhp mauling the firm has revealed. That makes the Explorer's all-new 1200cc+ motor 35% more powerful than its German rival's, at least for now, and on a par with the expected new Versys 1000. It also means it's the set to be the most powerful shaft-driven adventure tourer for the ...

Ducati 1199 Panigale's staggering power and weight figures leak

Guy Procter, 21 September 2011 23:01

The new Ducati 1199 Pangiale superbike boasts 195bhp and 176kg weight in road trim – WET. These are staggering figures from a 1200cc twin and go a long way toward justifying Ducati's ditching of traditional belts on the engine and steel trellis on the chassis. The all-new engine features the most radically oversquare engine yet (KTM RC8-R: 105mm, Panigale: 112mm), ...

Why artists should stay away from bikes. Especially Ducati 1198s

Guy Procter, 08 June 2011 11:23

A Danish artist has produced 10 special edition Ducati 1198s under the title 'Kill me Fast'. Of the £62,500 bikes Kristian von Hornsleth  says: "It is precisely the bikes' blend of beauty, speed and death, which inspired me to include this 'scuplture' in my artistic work. "The painted lines and forms interacts in a 'futilistic' attempt to investigate and challenge ...

What KTM taught Bajaj about promoting its new Pulsar 220

Guy Procter, 08 June 2011 10:43

Paint it orange, ride it lairy: it's a tried and trusted sales technique for KTM, whose partnership with Indian giant Bajaj has yielded the new Duke 125 and access to a wonderfully cost-efficient supply chain for the Austrian firm. Allowing the Pune-based firm to copy its marketing methods is the most obvious form of payback. It's hard to see how ...

2011 Motoczysz E1PC – M1cha3l Rutt3r's 200bhp digital watch

Guy Procter, 03 June 2011 17:41

This is the bike Michael Rutter wil ride in this year's electric TT, though if MotoCzysz had it their way no doubt it would be the Digital TT. Because what with all the over-promising and under-delivering the word 'electric' has kind of lost its caché in connection with motorcycling. MotoCzysz are going all-in with 'd1g1tal' - like 'digital' but even ...

Ducati burns the history books with new 1199 superbike

Guy Procter, 01 June 2011 10:14

The first spy shot of Ducati's 1198-replacing new superbike confirms the firm is a lot less sentimental about traditional Ducati characteristics than many fans. The result is the most extreme V-twin ever, but with its RSV4-alike tail, Kawasaki-style side-mounted shock and Buell-pattern belly-mounted exhaust it's without question less distinctively Ducati. But the fact is the firm can't afford to care. ...

BMW S1000RR streetfighter: so wrong it's right

Guy Procter, 13 May 2011 16:36

Believe it or not, this is an S1000RR. No doubt some parts will make you laugh and others weep, but there’s no denying it's a really thorough desecration. As a lover of all eras of BMW, owner and builder Steve Culp was moved to give his bike a vintage makeover to make it comfortable for his ageing frame. We applaud ...
