Best all-round tyres for a KTM Superduke

Marc Abbott, 08 September 2011 17:03

I have a KTM Superduke and need to replace both tyres. I ride quite hard so need something that inspires confidence, but often get caught out in the wet, so need something that doesn’t slide all over at the first drop of rain. But with money tight I would like something thatlasts around 2500 miles for a rear without breaking ...

When should I change my tyres?

Marc Abbott, 25 January 2011 15:10

I’ve been told that the legal minimum tread limit is 1mm. Should I let the tread go this low or should I change the tyre sooner? I don’t race my bike, it's only used on A and B-roads with very little motorway use. I have checked the tread tonight and I have 1.6mm of tread left, I just don't know ...

Why won’t Aprilia SR50 start well when hot?

Marc Abbott, 25 January 2011 15:07

My nipper has a fuel-injected Aprila SR50 Ditech. When it runs it has a really good little engine and will fly along at 35mph all day. The trouble is, it’s an absolute pig to start hot or cold. My injected bikes start with no throttle action, but with this you have to thumb the starter, constantly moving the throttle until ...

Is my Bandit 600’s fuel tap faulty?

Marc Abbott, 25 January 2011 15:04

I have a 2000 Suzuki Bandit 600 and when I have the fuel tap in the ‘on’ position it starts to run poorly, as though it isn’t getting enough fuel. But when I put the fuel tap to the ‘prime’ position it runs fine. Do you think the fuel tap is faulty or could it be something else? Jackie Reid, ...

Is there a cheap way to repair a tyre?

Marc Abbott, 29 December 2010 07:00

I caught a financial cold recently when I picked up a puncture in a nearly-new Z-rated tyre and I had to get it replaced. Is there any guaranteed way I can avoid a costly bill if I get another puncture?  Gary Harper, email   Avon tyres have a scheme called the Road Hazard Warranty. If one of their radial tyres becomes ...

Is it safe to disconnect my battery?

Marc Abbott, 28 December 2010 07:00

My friend told me that I cannot disconnect the old battery completely on my Suzuki GSX1400 as this means I will “lose the memory in the ECU”. Is this correct?Walter Calne, email  The moment you disconnect one of the battery leads it is disconnected “completely”, so if your friend’s theory was right no one would be able to change batteries. ...

Can I get a custom-made screen?

Marc Abbott, 27 December 2010 07:00

I have a 2007 Yamaha FJR1300A, which is a great bike, but I have an issue with the screen. When it’s down I just get buffeted to pieces, and if I put the screen up the wind just pushes my head forward from behind. I have looked at several screens and they are all bigger, wider and taller, and I ...

What's causing my ST1300 to wiggle?

Marc Abbott, 01 December 2010 12:38

I have a Honda ST1300, that’s in generally fine fettle, with good tyres and swingarm, and with steering head and wheel bearings in good condition, too. However, when pulling away, the bike feels like the back end is doing a little wiggle. I even thought that the engine bolts might be a little loose, but no joy there either. The last ...

Why won't my Honda CBF500's lights come on?

Marc Abbott, 22 September 2010 14:03

When I start my Honda CBF500 up the headlight should come on automatically.Sometimes it works and sometimes not. However, after riding for a few minutes it comes on and stays on. Neither dip nor main beam will work on their own when it¹s playing up. However, main beam will work on the passing/flasher switch.Chrisg, MCN forums The switching is done ...
