Bus Lanes - action needed!

This is taken from Honda Owners' Club website: "Apparently Transport for London are receiving very few comments from motorcyclists about the new London-wide TfL trial of motorcycles in red-route bus lanes. The latest news is that as part of the evaluation of the scheme 'users views' will be taken into account and 'numbers responding' will play a part in this. "It's ...

Some weeks ago, there was a story about lane discipline on roundabouts - see here Having checked out available documents I felt that there was an issue to resolve and wrote to Driving Standards Agency (DSA): I've looked at all the PDF pages of road signs and can't find any examples of the different types of signs for roundabouts, eg ...

Safer barriers won't be a priority

In this week's MCN the issue of the dangers of crash barriers to bikers is aired, including a wish that the UK Govt would follow the French in implementing safer crash barriers. Is this the France where they still have city centre underpasses wuth no crash barriers at all? That apart, there's a statistic in the article that only 1% ...

Hand Guards for Street Bikes

I don't always get MCN but one week recently I did and saw a short press release on the new Acerbis hand guards for street bikes – their model “Dual Road”. I made enquiries in the trade and the quickest response was from AMS Motorcycles, Tewkesbury ( I arranged to buy a pair as soon as they were available. I ...

Another kind of speed camera?

I saw what looked like a new speed trap arrangement yesterday, in S Yorks. It was a black box on a tripod, similar in appearance but a bit bigger than one of the old-fashioned glass plate cameras. It was in the central reservation, hidden partly by the street furniture and placed to catch rear number plates. I only spotted it ...

Are all bike racers midgets?

I keep hearing on MotoGP commentary about how Dani Pedrosa has an advantage because he's so small and light. Well, unless James Cracknell's a giant, then most of the riders associated with BSB are midgets, especially John Reynolds, but you don't hear talk about them in the same way. Why not?

Have a chuckle at this (but Beemer riders don't bother):

Time for another fuel protest?

The following e-mail is circulating. Sounds OK to me. We are hitting 95p a litre in some areas now, soon we will be faced with paying £1 a litre. Philip Hollsworth offered this good idea: This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the 'don't buy petrol on a certain day campaign that was going around last April or May! The oil ...

20mph speed limit for motorcyclists?

The recent article by two non-biker idiots caused a lot of comment. Well, I came across these two over the Snake Pass today. I was following a couple of trucks at the road speed limit of 50mph when they suddenly slowed down to 5mph on a double white line section and stayed at that speed for quite a while. I ...

Road debris

I understand that BMF are to campaign for cleaner roads and quicker clean up after problems. My experience today suggests they'll have their hands full. As I passed a busy junction (entry to a supermarket) I had to swerve to miss a construction barrier that was supposed to be protecting a road centre excavation. Along with all the other 3 ...
