Riding skills: Filtering

It’s not queue jumpingFiltering is always a contentious topic as those not on a bike often look upon it as queue jumping. That of course is rubbish; it’s what bikes were built to do. What the law saysThe Highway Code says “when filtering in slow-moving traffic, take care and keep your speed low” which appears to me to be tacit ...

Horse riders, a noisy bike and poor road visibility...best practice?

I just passed my CBT on a geared bike a week ago, although I had a twist and go years back and have driven for the past 13 years.Out for a gentle 'getting to know the bike better' (Yamaha RS100, noisy but beautiful little 2 stroke) jaunt on country lanes on Sunday I came up behind a horse and rider.  Saw them in plenty of time, dropped down and kept my distance, BUT we were on a drawn out, narrow, low visibility bend, which meant all I could do was sit behind them, for a fair few minutes, during which ...

Post test training?

I'd be grateful for thoughts on post test training / skills development.  I passed mod 2 in May and expect to be a weekend rider with the odd commute.  I've bought a Honda CBF 600 SA and have been driving for 20 odd years.  My ideas were BikeSafe or the DVLA Enhanced Rider Scheme.  Other suggestions made to me are:Ride 10,000 miles then think about it; andCalifornia race school.Grateful for thoughts on these or other ideas. Thanks

GSX1000F(R)

I would love the gsxr650f... but i want more power. Currently I own a GSXR600... and its great, as a sports bike. But, if I could get a more comfortable and practical ride with the power and acceleration and some good handling... that would be good! So, how practical and or expensive I wonder would it be to have a GSXR600-1000 engine put onto the GSXR650f ... to make it into the bike that should already exist (the GSX1000FR lol)?  I don't have any mechanical skills by the way.   I'm happy with the GSXR, I ride it 62 miles a day ...
