MCN London Motorcycle Show: Iconic race bike display
29 January 2009 14:18
The MCN London Motorcycle Show isn’t just about new bikes – we’ve also included some nostalgic displays, topped by the Iconic race bike stand.
Grabbing most of the attention on the first morning is the Suzuki XR14 500GP bike that late racing legend Barry Sheene won his first 500GP on.
Kindly loaned by bike collector Chris Wilson, the machine is in full running order and makes regular public appearances.
Also from Wilson’s collection is the 1999 Suzuki RGV500 carrying Nobuatsu Aoki’s number three plate.
Colin Edward’s 2002 Honda SPW world superbike in stars and stripes colours from Laguna Seca is on loan from Honda Racing, as well as John McGuinness’ 2006/2007 Isle of Man Senior TT bike – the first bike to break the 130mph lap barrier.
Ryuichi Kiyonari’s 2007 BSB title winning Fireblade also steps back in to the limelight for the next four days.
See the rest of the display at ExCEl in London’s Docklands.
