Hamstreet Classic Bikejumble: 10am Sunday 19th September

Hayes & Southall Motorcycle Club will be playing MotoBall at The Rye (Hamstreet) Classic Motorcycle Bikejumble on Sunday 19th September 2010. To put it simply, Moto-ball is five-a-side football on motor bikes with the goal keeper on foot.

The pitch is a normal size football pitch with the addition of a semi circle running two meters either side of the goal post.

Only the goal keeper and the referee is allowed in this area. If an attacker enters this area they give away a penalty, if a defender enters the area it’s an 18 yard free kick.

There is no offside rule, but a player cannot take the ball from one end of the pitch to the other they must pass the ball at the half way line. MotoBall (or Motorcycle Football) was started after the first World war by British army dispatch riders.

The sport grew and a British League and Knock-out Cup ran for many years. However, along with many other sports such as Grasstrack and Speedway, popularity declined until it is rarely seen in the UK.

The bikes are basic trail bikes with added safety precautions like covered chain guards both top and bottom, all sharp edges are removed and a small frame is fitted below the engine to reduce the ground clearance to prevent running the ball over.

A selection of basic trials machines will be in use, including twin-shock Honda, Yamaha, Bultaco, BSA C15 and Husqvarna and it will be exciting to watch! Hayes & Southall Motorcycle Club are always on the look-out for new members, so this could be your chance to join in.

Attached are some handouts with more information, rules and photos. Meanwhile, the Rye (Hamstreet) Classic Bikejumble has grown over the years to become a really good event, with a laid-back atmosphere set in the heart of some of Kent’s best riding roads.

The large motorcycle only autojumble continues to grow, with a great range of stalls selling new and used spares, complete motorcycles, clothing & accessories.
