My name is Mick Sturland and I'm a Police Officer working in Shropshire. Part of my role is working to promote rider and road safety in Shropshire and I have been instrumental in seting up the Shropshire Motorcycle Road Safety Group, a non profit group made up of partners from police, fire, council and safer roads in Shropshire.

Our sole aim is to promote safer riding on our roads and reduce casualty figures. The highlight of our work is our main bike show, which we staged for the first time last year at Shrewsbury Town football club.

This event attracted over 4,500 despite little budget and advertising. The main emphasis of the event was to offer free assessed ride outs with RoSPA & IAM as well as free biker experience for young and inexperienced riders.

We also had live music, trade stalls, stunt riders and loads of other attractions, all free.

This year, our show will be entitled the Shropshire Bike Fest. It is being held on Sunday 24th June 2012 between 10am and 4pm at Meole Brace Park and Ride, Shreswbury.

We have a proper budget, event planners and plan on National media coverage so hope to attract 8-10,000 to this free entry event.

To see who's coming and what's on, head over to our website, address as below, and click on the 'Bike Fest' tab.

We are a non profit group, and as such, we are raising funds and donations on the day to the Midlands Air Ambulance charity.
