Riding skills: What is the vanishing point?

It's a technique that could revolutionise your road riding. Honestly it's that useful. Its based on the idea that you can tell whether a corner is going to tighten up or open up based on the movement of just one point called the vanishing point.
This is where, as you look into the corner, the two sides of the road (or verges) appear to meet. If you keep looking towards this point that's good it means you're looking far enough ahead to ride smoothly and see problems early. But if you also notice whether this point is moving towards you or away, you have a crucial indication of what the corner is doing next.
If the vanishing point is moving towards you, then the corner is tightening up and you need to roll off the throttle.
Conversely, if it's moving away you can open the throttle and accelerate smoothly out. It sounds like magic, but believe us it works. Faster and safer riding beckons.
