Vehicle registration
Don't leave home without genuine registration documents (not photocopies).
The information on it needs to match your Carnet de Passage if you need one (see below).

International driving licence (IDP)
Available from the AA this is a special licence for tourists and proof that the holder possesses a valid licence issued by a competent authority in their country of residence.

There are two types issued in the UK IDP 1926 and IDP 1949 and they are valid for 12 months.

A list of countries where an IDP is required can be found here

Driving licence
You also need your domestic licence. Just the card part is fine.

A good tip is to colour photocopy both sides of the card and laminate them together.
This is convincing enough for most officials.

If you suspect that your licence may be held for any reason hand over the 'fake' version keeping the original hidden.

Carnet de Passages en Douane
This is a internationally recognised Customs document entitling the holder to TEMPORARILY import a vehicle duty-free into countries, which normally require a deposit against import charges for such vehicles (generally countries outside Europe).

If you fail to leave the country before the date on the carnet has expired you may be required to pay import tax and duty on the value of the vehicle.

Make sure you carnet is in date and the details match the motorcycle.

An updated list of countries where a Carnet is needed is available here
