How to deal with an Isle of Man speeding ticket

I thought we were going to get an 'insider' scoop there... You guys short of news?

My understanding after being on the Isle of Man is that a few things can happen:

1. Coppers stop you and give you a royal bollocking and keep you hanging around for a while.

2. You get a jolly good fine.

3. You're arrested, appear in court next day, jolly large fine and then shown to the ferry terminal whereby you leave the island.

Now. I was stopped for doing in excess of 70mph in a 30mph zone. I wasn't actually too sure what the speed limit was and 'thought', wrongly, that I was in the derestricted zone. Coppers were great and had a chat, left me sitting for a while first mind you but then a friendly few words and sent on my way.

The Police on the Isle of Man are fantastic people and a completely different kettle of fish to the mainland plonkers. The Police on the Isle of Man are very well respected and rightly so. They have earned the right to the respect and they use their discretion where possible and practical. If someone was to land a ticket or end up in court I would say 100% that they deserve it.

After my little 'incident' I paid far more attention, lost the 'need for speed' and relaxed. Left the Isle with a big grin and a lot of happy memories including those memories of the fantastic Police Force who are always approachable and very easy to talk with.

I don't generally like the Police but the Isle of Man force is a special bunch. I even had my pic taken with one of their hats on!!! I wouldn't do that anywhere else... I treat all other coppers with the contempt they deserve. The Isle of Man is the one place I have been on my bike that I will most definitely be visiting as often as possible.

PS: Slow down and take it easy. Wait until you know you're in the NO speed limit zones..........
