Children’s cancer charity CLIC Sargent will be celebrating five years of the Barry Sheene Memorial Motorcycle Challenge with a special 10-day tour through Northern Europe in July 2010.
This year’s Barry Sheene Memorial Motorcycle Challenge has a Scandinavian feel with riders setting off from Brands Hatch on 11 July to explore the lakes and coastal roads of Denmark and Sweden.
The tour will take in a number of race circuits including Djursland in Denmark and Anderstorp in Sweden, where Barry won some of his most memorable races. Team Sheene will then head south to Germany, visiting the Lausitz track before enjoying the Sachsenring GP.
Riders are asked to pay a registration fee of £195 and raise a minimum of £2,650 in sponsorship for CLIC Sargent. Participants will be given a resources pack to help with fundraising and a designated CLIC Sargent contact to support them in reaching their target. The sponsorship fee includes ferry travel, accommodation, breakfast and evening meals, tour leader, support van, GP ticket and route planning/map costs.
The annual Barry Sheene Memorial motorcycle challenge has raised over £400,000 in the five years since it launched and attracted more than 150 participants.
“Over the past five years the Barry Sheene Memorial Motorcycle Challenge has become a firm fixture in the biking calendar,” says Henry Street, CLIC Sargent’s Challenge Events Co-ordinator. “There’s a real sense of camaraderie amongst the challenge participants – or Team Sheene as they’re now known!
We wanted to celebrate the tour’s fifth anniversary in style and the itinerary for this Northern European trip is really exciting. Places are filling up fast so I would urge anyone interested in this year’s to get in touch as soon as possible to secure their place – and be part of Team Sheene!”, adds Henry.
