I've just spent a week touring Normandy on my 1200 Bandit. It was my first time abroad with the bike and it was fully loaded with Givi topbox, panniers, tank bag and not forgetting the lovely lady.

Despite being nine years old and in need of a new chain and sprocket set the bike performed like a dream.

We kept off the autoroutes as much as we could and enjoyed some lovely sweeping roads surrounded by stunning scenery.

We stayed in St Vaast La Hogue and were greeted on the first night with a three-piece band bashing out Hendrix, Stones and the like.

We did Bayeux and rode down to Mont Saint Michel as well as the Normandy landing beaches.

I have to say the French were nothing like the stereotypes and they appreciated my limited grasp of their language with good humour and in most cases, perfect English.

Changes for next year's trip? Travel to Cherbourg rather than Boulogne and go for two weeks rather than one.
