A British tour company is offering bike tours of northern Iraq, under the watchful eye of AK-47-toting guards.

The £3,000 trip lasts six days and covers 900-miles of breathtaking mountain scenery through the Erbil and Kirkuk regions of Iraqi Kurdistan.

Organiser Steve Askin of TrailRidingUK’s “Iraq Challenge” told MCN:

“I’ve already managed to get a couple of Iraqi police officers on board to keep away local bandits as well as some ‘fixers’ who I’ve worked with before and would trust with my life.

"The team will have a range of weapons with them including AK-47s, M4s and Glock pistols, over here things can change quickly and it’s important to always remain vigilant.”
