Ducati 1098 (2007-current)

£11,250

1099cc, 160bhp, 180mph, Insurance group 17

This is the Ducati motorcycle we’ve been waiting for since the original Ducati 916. It’s a Ducati motorcycle in the truest form. Blood red, stunning to look at and absolutely pure in its purpose. It’s been a long time coming but it finally looks like Ducati has built a sports bike that can run with the best. The Ducati 1098 finally stands for ...

Suzuki GSX-R1000 (2003-2004)

N/A

988cc, 164bhp, 186mph, Insurance group 16

Ultra fast, capable track missile that works far better on the road then you’d imagine. The MK II Suzuki GSX-R1000 (K3-K4) thou is smaller and more compact than the Suzuki GSX-R1000 K1-K2 models. It’s easier to flick around race tracks but, bizarrely, the Suzuki GSX-R1000 makes an acceptable one-man sports tourer too.

Suzuki GSX-R750 (2006-2007)

£8,199

749cc, 125bhp, 170mph, Insurance group 16

Perfect balance is a tricky concept to build into a motorcycle, especially a sportsbike, but the Suzuki GSX-R750 is arguably the best blend of sheer speed, fluid handling and outstanding braking that anyone could ask for. The GSX-R750 is devastatingly fast, at the track, or on the road and incredibly easy to ride too. It's so good, you wonder why anyone buys ...

Kawasaki ZZ-R1100 (1990-1997)

N/A

1052cc, 147bhp, 172mph, Insurance group 16

The ZZ-R11 long reigned as speed top dog, but that all changed in 1996 when Honda’s Super Blackbird assumed the title of “Fastest Production Motorcycle”. Intriguingly, however, the ZZ-R continues to impress, aceing the the Blackbird in top gear roll on tests, remaining a great all-rounder and now being better value than ever.

Triumph Speed Triple 1050 (2005-2010)

£7,799

1050cc, 128bhp, 150mph, Insurance group 13

Triumph's Speed Triple 1050 is one factory Streetfighter than delivers the goods. It's plenty fast enough, in fact you can hit 150mph if you can hang on. Plus it sounds beautiful and the fact that it's a big heavy lump that needs manhandling round corners actually attracts devotees. The Speed Triple always was, and remains, a bit of a Rottweiler.  ...

Triumph Daytona 675 (2006-2008)

£7,199

675cc, 123bhp, 160mph, Insurance group 16

The Triumph Daytona 675 has put Hinckley firm back on the shortlist of many UK sports motorcycle riders, who previously rated the 600 and 650 Daytona models as being OK, but no real alternative to a Japanese four cylinder 600cc sportbikes. Silky, compact handling, allied to kick-ass engine power and a howling exhaust note, make the Triumph Daytona 675 a ...

Triumph Rocket III (2005-current)

£11,999

2294cc, 120bhp, 135mph, Insurance group 17

The Triumph Rocket III is the biggest, most bad-ass motorcycle money can buy. The specs are awesome a 2.3-litre engine producing almost 150ft lb of torque, pistons the same size as those found in a Dodge Viper supercar and what was at one time the biggest back tyre on a production bike… The Triumph Rocket III is simply an incredible experience and ...

Kawasaki ZRX1100 (1997-2001)

N/A

1052cc, 98bhp, 145mph, Insurance group 13

The Kawasaki ZRX1100 is one of those bikes which doesn't look that exciting on paper, or even parked up, but once you grab a big handful of throttle down a twisty road the thing comes alive. It's an old school, take-no-prisoners hoon machine and you can surprise yourself - and random sportbike riders - with its combination of solid braking, ...

Aprilia Tuono 1000 (2003-current)

£8,399

998cc, 116bhp, 155mph, Insurance group 16

The Aprilia Tuono 1000 is one of the maddest motorcycles you can buy, with a blend of wheelie-popping power, respectable handling and Goldie Lookin' Chain styling. A motor taken from the RSV1000 Mille sportbike, but not detuned, acts like a Mr Hyde potion in this motorcycle, but if you like the occasional foray to the dark side, you'll love the Aprilia Tuono 1000.
