Ducati 750SS (1991-2002)

N/A

748cc, 64bhp, 127mph, Insurance group 13

This is the latest in a long, long line of Ducati 750SS which date back to the early 1970s (think Paul Smart). The most recent version of the Ducati 750SS is not a bad all-round motorcycle, and the fuel injection’s a marked improvement, but it’s hard work and a lot of money for not, perhaps, quite enough reward. One for the fans?

Ducati M600 Monster (1993-2001)

N/A

583cc, 53bhp, 116mph, Insurance group 13

A mini version of the highly-successful Ducati M900 Monster, the 600 has always been a hit with ‘first big bikers’,  women especially. It looks fabulous, sounds even better and offers sprightly, spirited performance. What’s more, the Ducati M600 Monster is an affordable way in to the sought-after Ducati motorcycles brand.   Watch video of this bike and more on MCN | TV ...

Kawasaki ZR-7 (1999-2004)

N/A

738cc, 75bhp, 126mph, Insurance group 11

With its proven engine, accessible power and easy handling, the Kawasaki ZR-7’s the ideal choice for newbies, couriers, and anyone wanting an easy life. At its budget price, it’ll appeal to the frugal, too. What it lacks in presence and excitement it makes up for in practicality and affordability.

Bimota BB1 Supermono (1995-1999)

N/A

652cc, 48bhp, 110mph, Insurance group 13

The Bimota BB1 is strictly one for enthusiasts and collectors. Gorgeous looks, excellent handling and Italian exclusivity are the positives. Unfortunately the negatives (lack of power and heavy vibrations from the engine) more than outweigh the plusses for most people. Also the Bimota BB1 is not cheap and dealer back up is almost non-existent.

BMW F650 (1993-2007)

N/A

652cc, 50bhp, 106mph, Insurance group 9

Born as the baby to the BMW R1150GS (now 1200cc), the BMW F650GS has a long and credible pedigree, including a string of varients. The BMW F650 has off-road pretentions but, in the real world, is a sturdy and sensible road motorcycle (the BMW F650 Dakar’s the one for the green lanes), it deals with most situations with predictable power and confidence.
