MCN overall verdict rating is 3

The PS125i is sturdy, well made and has the weight of the Honda brand behind it, so you know it’s a safe and reliable purchase. That said, it’s pricier than the competition and doesn’t perform as well. Ridden in isolation it’s perfectly adequate, but for the money there are better scooters out there.

Engine

MCN rating rating is 4
Owners' rating rating is 0

The PS125i makes a claimed 13.5bhp from its liquid-cooled 4-stroke engine. That’s enough to propel it to around 65mph which is a little limited for the open road, but it gets off the line well enough for town use

Ride and Handling

MCN rating rating is 3
Owners' rating rating is 0

One of the biggest weaknesses of the PS125i is its relatively high and wide seat. It makes it comfy on the go, but at 800mm it’s more awkward to paddle around at slow speed than other scoots and could put off shorter riders. The handling is acceptable for a town run-around but uninspiring and a little unstable – something about the riding position feels mildly unwieldy compared to other scooters, like Honda’s own brilliant PCX125. The brakes are the same – adequate but lacking bite.

Equipment

MCN rating rating is 3

In terms of storage there’s a bay under the seat big enough to take a full-face lid and a glovebox under the dash that holds the fuse box and not much else. The PS125i has a built in luggage rack/grab rail that takes an optional top box. Annoyingly though it’s missing a side stand. Compare and buy parts for the PS125i in the MCN Shop.

Quality and Reliability

MCN rating rating is 5

It’s a Honda, so reliability will probably never be an issue. It’s also satisfyingly chunky and well made, even if the styling does look a little dull and dated, especially in silver. Thankfully there are nicer paint schemes available.

£2,570 is a little bit expensive when you can get better looking, better handling and better equipped scooters for hundreds less. You’re paying partially for the Honda badge, so it’s up to you whether you think the extra reassurance is worth it. 0% finance is available though, which takes the sting out of the price a bit.
