MCN overall verdict rating is 5

With the KTM 950 Supermoto finally someone delivers on the supermoto promise, combining the agility, low-down woof and rugged can-do with mile-after-mile reliability, comfort and higher speeds of a top-quality road bike. It’s a big capacity V-twin bad boy that, finally, really can shake its tail at sportsbikes in the twisties.

Engine

MCN rating rating is 4
Owners' rating rating is 5

The KTM 950 Supermoto's DOHC, 75-degree V-twin is the same carb-fed motor that powers KTM’s own 950 Adventure giant traillie so perfectly. It’s smooth, hoikes easy wheelies and will rattle on to a top speed on the indecent side of 130mph. There’s stomp aplenty, making pulverising corners and overtakes like taking a sledgehammer to crack a nut. Updated to 990cc in 2007.

Ride and Handling

MCN rating rating is 5
Owners' rating rating is 4.5

The KTM 950 Supermoto's high-spec WP suspension is fully adjustable fore and aft, with the added benefit of high/low speed compression damping to let you fine tune the ride quality to the Nth degree. The motor’s smooth, the radial brakes faultless and the quality of cornering straight out of the top drawer.

Equipment

MCN rating rating is 4
Owners' rating rating is 4

KTM’s ‘Hard Parts’ catalogue will help you dress your 950 Supermoto with everything from carbon wheels to carbon-fibre cans (if your pockets are deep enough). Somewhat surprisingly the clocks come without a rev counter.

Quality and Reliability

MCN rating rating is 5
Owners' rating rating is 5

The KTMm 950 Supermoto's componentry quality is excellent; WP suspension, Magura bars and Brembo brakes. Thanks to KTM’s long involvement in off-roading the motor’s super-reliable, replacement plastics are cheap and the finish isn’t dimmed by the rough and tumble of day-to-day riding in Britain.

Value

MCN rating rating is 5
Owners' rating rating is 4.5

New or used the KTM 950 Supermoto represents good value for money. KTM’s brand represents high quality and the market reflects that with slow-to-sink residuals. As a flexible, feel-good option there’s little to touch it, especially if you’re tired of cramped sportsbikes. Think of it as a BMW GS with balls and you’re almost there.

Not had this bike long. Only had it on dry roads twice, instead of icy wet ones, but no matter what the road conditions, you can have plenty of fun with this. There's drive everywhere, all the time. It's comfy. It's so easy to ride. Gives you so much confidence. I came to this from an BMW F800S, so power increase is decent, though delivery is very different. Overall speeds the same, but how you get there is aworld apart!! I'm doing things on cold roads that I would never have dreamed of on the ex. Awesome bike. Love it. Want to make love to it!!! :)

All the good riding manners you could want and the engine is brill, comfy too. Lack of wind protection & the instrumentation could be better, (I'm being picky here) let the side down.

After years of sportsbikes and crunched up bones and wrists I found the most mental bike of them all, it encourages you to ride it like you stole it! The handling is brilliantly entertaining, brakes are awesome, even I can wheelie it. Easy to ride through town, watch the clutch though. Light controls make it a doddle. The best thing though is its not the same as any other bike on the road and surprises with every move and look. Downsides no rev counter and pricey servicing but service is excellent, warranty stipulates work MUST be done by KTM. Otherwise Love IT

KTM 950 SM

Bought the last 950SM in the UK in Jan this year and it is mental. Always had sports bike before but this is a nutters bike and so much more fun. Fantastic commuting into Madchester gets me their quicker than a speeding policeman. Seat is a bit lacking but you move around so much when you get used to the bike it is no big deal.
