MCN overall verdict

This is Moto Morini’s answer to the BMW R1200GS. The Italian-built machine, which is powered by a big, booming V-twin motor has a 19” front wheel for off-road action and a roomy riding position, but it’s very racy. Instant acceleration is akin to a big supermoto and with its firm, top-quality suspension it’s agile and stable in the corners. It’s not the comfiest, but it’s one of the most fun adventure bikes your can buy. One of the only drawbacks, which is a pretty big one, is the current health of the troubled Moto Morini company.

The Granpasso is powered by a 118bhp liquid-cooled, 1187cc, 87° V-twin engine with six gears. It sounds great, is packed with loads of low-down grunt and cruising along at 90mph motorways speeds the motor purrs along at 5000rpm. It has lots of outright get-up-and-go, enough to make the Granpasso feel more like a sportsbike.

Although roomy, the combination of hard seat and firm suspension means you’ll be stopping for respite long before the fuel runs out in the big 27-litre tank. Handling is good, but the suspension is on the firm side for the road. With its off-road-style 19” front wheel and dual purpose tyres it’s not as sure-footed as a machine with dedicated road tyres and a 17” front wheel.

Build quality is very good and we’ve heard no horror stories about reliability. We’ve knocked a point off for the question mark over parts availability from the struggling firm.

You get a lot of bike for your money here, it’s fast, good looking, well-equipped and exclusive. It ticks most of the boxes, but with the future of Moto Morini still in the balance you’ll have to really want a Granpasso to risk spending over ten grand on one. Find a Moto Morini Granpasso for sale.

Don't buy this bike if you don't like people gawping and asking questions. Faster than my 1050 speed triple i previously owned ,comfy riding/pillion position. sounds fantastic, not to loud ,you will grin.7thou service interval regardless of time .oozing quality components. very well built/hand made.very reliable not let me down yet .negative points 1 or 2 minor niggles like any other bike ,fuel reserve light & leaky tyre valves.lots of common parts,only exclusive bits might be tricky getting hold of in future if MM go under . MM has been in never never land of liquidation for over 16 months.but will surly be a classic bike .Highly recommended

Moto Morini have now been saved and are under new management yah! 2011 . Not that MCN know ,they are still reporting MM as a defunct brand.I would have thought it was worth a mention in their paper, It being a NEWS! paper about Motorcycles!.
