1974 NORTON COMMANDO

By 1974 the 850cc engine had overtaken the 750cc Commando engine and only 850cc bikes were being produced. The Roadster was the lighter, slimline version of the models. The majority of these bikes were produced for the US market, and they were only made for a short time from late 1973 to the end of 1974. To many people the Mark 2 Commando represents the pinnacle of the Commando as a fast, sport-oriented and touring bike. Our bike has been recently restored by an award-winning Kent based restorer. The bike has been restored with the utmost attention to detail, and ...

1975 NORTON COMMANDO

The Norton Commando needs little introduction; quite simply it is one of the best known and best-loved of all British bikes. From 1969 to 1977 these bikes were manufactured in a number of different guises, Fastbacks, Roadsters, Interstates and more. The bike that we have managed to acquire is one of the last in the line, a 1975 Interstate 850. As is very common on these bikes, the limited electric start that would have been fitted has been removed. The bike has also been converted to one on one carburettor to aid simplicity of maintenance and economy of fuel. We ...

1974 NORTON COMMANDO

40 years old, this must be the best of British motorcycle engineering. The Interstate model has the larger fuel tank and in my opinion, is the best looking configuration that Norton ever produced. This bike had a full engine rebuild before I bought her about 6 years ago (>£4k). The clock states 754 miles, so I would take that with a huge pinch of salt! That said, it probably has only done that mileage since the rebuild (by Norman White, Norton specialist). This is one of the best sounding bikes I have ever heard as it was built, pre-Brussels muppetry. ...

1973 NORTON COMMANDO

We recently acquired this excellent Norton Commando in the United States where it had been dry stored since 1995 according to the vendor. It is showing only 4600 miles, although we have no way of confirming that this mileage is correct. The bike is a matching numbers (208655) Roadster 750 manufactured in 1972 and registered in the USA in 1973. At some point it has been lightly modified in a mild café racer style, with Akront style rims, Norman Hyde rear sets, and clubman handlebars. It has a very good, possibly original black paint and is in very good overall ...

Norton picture: proof of full production

This is the picture that sceptics thought they'd never see and proves reborn Norton is now in full production.  In next week's MCN, out on Wednesday June 2, we get exclusive access to Norton's factory, and watch production of the £15,995, 961 Commando SE. Around 30 examples of the retro-styled, twin cylinder roadster have now been completed, with 20 already ...
