Honda DN-01 (2008-2010)

£10,625

680cc, 51bhp, 110mph, Insurance group

The DN-01 is hard to categorise - Is it a cruiser? Is it a scooter? Whatever it is, it’s a very easy to ride, comfortable, capable and enjoyable motorcycle, let down by a very high price and too much hype. If money is no object, all you want is an attention-grabbing commuter or Sunday cruiser, and you wonder why all ...

Yamaha XVS1100 (1998-current)

£6,999

1063cc, 62bhp, 110mph, Insurance group 11

The Yamaha XVS1100 - a big  cruiser of yesteryear is more a mid sized cruiser of today. It's an evolution of Yamaha’s long running XV1100 Virago which used to be its custom-style range topper but now it’s dwarfed by the near-two litre megacruisers. The Yamaha XVS1100 is somewhat old tech but light weight and manageability are always useful.

Harley-Davidson VRSCR Street Rod (2005-current)

£10,995

1130cc, 120bhp, 144mph, Insurance group 17

‘Designed for Europe’  Harley-Davidson Street Rod is a sports version of the Harley-Davidson V-Rod. So while the engine remains the same as its cruiser cousin, the Harley-Davidson Street Rod's chassis has been modified to turn it into a handler. It works, too, delivering a much more invigorating ride – still no Suzuki GSX-R1000, not by a long chalk.

Harley-Davidson FXSTB Night Train (1998-current)

£11,795

1580cc, 67bhp, 118mph, Insurance group 16

One of Harley’s whackier ‘image bikes’, in a similar vein to the Harley-Davidson Bad Boy, Street Bob and Night Rod. The Harley-Davidson Night Train is a Europe-only model based on the Softail. It’s lean, mean and very black and it goes pretty much as it looks. If you like the style of the Harley-Davidson Night Train you won’t be disappointed.

Harley-Davidson VRSCD Night Rod (2006-current)

£14,145

1130cc, 115bhp, 144mph, Insurance group 17

The Harley-Davidson Night Rod is the third derivative of the controversial (but undeniably modern) Harley-Davidson VRSC V-Rod family is for those who like their bikes hot-rod style – and black. In practical terms it’s halfway between the laid back Harley-Davidson V-Rod and semi-sporty roadster Harley-Davidson Street Rod. And that’s no bad thing: a modern Harley with style and ability.

Harley-Davidson FXDWGI Dyna Wide Glide (1995-2009)

£11,745

1580cc, 67bhp, 115mph, Insurance group 15

The Harley-Davidson Dyna Wide Glide is the Harley motorcycle for the real Easy Rider/Chopper fans. Basic Hog architecture (big twin mill, twin shock ‘Dyna’ rear end) gets the full-on ‘bro’ treatment with raked out, widely-splayed  (hence the Wide moniker) forks, 21-inch wire front wheels, pull-back Ape-hangers, ‘bobtail’ rear fender and forward-mounted ‘highway’ pegs. As a motorcycle, ponderous. As a style statement, the ...

Harley-Davidson FXDX Dyna Super Glide Sport (1998-2005)

N/A

1450cc, 65bhp, 115mph, Insurance group 15

Basically the Harley-Davidson Dyna Super Glide Sport is as per the stock Harley-Davidson Dyna Super Glide but with a touch more hard edged sporting attitude courtesy of flat bars, a different seat, twin disc brakes and a touch more mean and moody matt black paint.

Honda VT600 Shadow (1992-2002)

N/A

583cc, 54bhp, 111mph, Insurance group 11

The Honda VT600 Shadow is pretty much the antithesis of the original chopper credo. If the first true chops were all about bad boy, bristly individuality, the 600 Shadow is about as soft, unthreatening and unoriginal as it gets. It’s bland, novice-friendly and safe and predictable, but you’;ve really got to ask yourself if you want that sort of thing. ...

Harley-Davidson FXDLI Dyna Low Rider (1991-current)

£10,995

1584cc, 67bhp, 115mph, Insurance group 15

Another Harley staple aimed at riders with traditional tastes who are looking for a machine that’s both comfortable and easy to handle. The Harley-Davidson Dyna Low Rider combines a low seat, mid-mounted foot controls and pull back bars for easy comfort. Like all 2007 Hogs it also benefits from the new 1558 engine, too.

Harley-Davidson FXST Softail Standard (1998-current)

£10,795

1449cc, 67bhp, 110mph, Insurance group 15

The Harley-Davidson Softail Standard has classic Harley looks and technology for the custom fan who wants the authentic American experience. The Softail family has concealed rear suspension for a hard-core ‘hardtail’ look. The  Harley-Davidson Softail Standard was discontinued for 2007.  Compared to later motorcycles, the main differences are that it hasn’t got the latest air cooled engine and other minor refinements.
