Suzuki GSX-R750 (1996-1999)

N/A

749cc, 130bhp, 164mph, Insurance group 16

In 1996 Suzuki unveiled their new Suzuki GSX-R750. The engineers had ditched the cradle frame, which had been a feature of the bike since it invented modern superbiking in 1985. Ducati Multistrada 1000/1100 DS (2004-2009)

£7,750

992cc, 85bhp, 134mph, Insurance group 15

The Ducati Multistrada 1000DS is a bold attempt at tourer/town/sportster hybrid motorcycle and mostly hits the mark. Whacky styling masks a truly versatile motorcycle mixed with Italian style. £8,399

897cc, 74bhp, 139mph, Insurance group 13

BMW R1100S (1999-2005)

N/A

1085cc, 98bhp, 141mph, Insurance group 13

The BMW R1100S is now starting to be regarded as something of a classic, especially in Boxer Cup form. Classy (and crucially un-ugly) styling, VFR-esque comfort and versatility plus BMW quality and residuals make for a stonking and attractive all-rounder, if not quite the sports bike BM intended…
