Honda NC700D Integra (2012-2013)

£7,699

670cc, 51bhp, 98mph, Insurance group

A maxi-scooter that's really a motorbike, with the same engine and chassis as Honda's NC700S and NC700X. Although technically accomplished, the Integra has a utilitarian feel, like a motorcycle made for people who don't particularly like motorcycling.

Husaberg FS 400E (2001-2003)

N/A

399cc, 39bhp, 90mph, Insurance group 11

Until recently the Husaberg FS400 was one of the few over-the-counter supermotos available. It’s a very raw experience, with a terrific induction noise from the airbox, which nestles between the frame tubes right under the seat a barking exhaust note and furious acceleration. However, it’s not the most reliable bike.

Ducati 600SS (1993-1999)

N/A

583cc, 53bhp, 120mph, Insurance group 11

Ducati ‘Super Sport’ 600. It sounds fast but it isn’t. With under 50bhp at the rear wheel it’s a sports motorcycle with little bite, and the Ducati 600SS is pretty impractical too. Most examples of this motorcycle are old and carrying plenty of scars and can be potential money pits. Worth considering if you find a loved Ducati 600SS in mint condition and don’t want ...

CCM R30 (2001-current)

£5,028

644cc, 44bhp, 105mph, Insurance group 11

The CCM R30 comes in two versions with two different wheel options. First there’s the older motorcycles with the Austrian made Rotax motor made until mid-2002, then there’s the Suzuki XF650 Freewind-powered version made from then on. You can chose between cast or spoked wheels – the spoked ones arguably look better and work better when using the motorcycle off-road, but ...

Bimota BB1 Supermono (1995-1999)

N/A

652cc, 48bhp, 110mph, Insurance group 13

The Bimota BB1 is strictly one for enthusiasts and collectors. Gorgeous looks, excellent handling and Italian exclusivity are the positives. Unfortunately the negatives (lack of power and heavy vibrations from the engine) more than outweigh the plusses for most people. Also the Bimota BB1 is not cheap and dealer back up is almost non-existent.
