Best bikes for under %XA35k: 2005-2006 Suzuki GSX-R1000

What was it like then? This was the superbike to have in the mid-noughties. The K5/K6 was magnificent, but little did we know it would be the best GSX-R1000 ever. After a steady improvement through the models, from the 2001 GSX-R1000 K1 to this 2005 K5, we naturally expected the K7 to be better, but it wasn%X92t %X96 it was too...

Staff blog: A question for readers

I%X92ve been accused of being over-critical of bikes in the past. A spot of rust after a couple of months and I have a whinge about it in print. %X93What about the positives?%X94 a manufacturer once complained.  So I%X92m not going to do that this time. I%X92m going to report that the Burgman 650 ABS Executive is a fantastic, underestimated...

Staff blog: How much?

I got a shock when I saw the price of new standard rear tyre for the Burgman 650 ABS Executive from a Suzuki dealer: %XA3184 plus %XA330 for fitting.   The first one has just been replaced during the 4000 mile service, which costs %XA3135. So that%X92s a total of %XA3349.   I do 800 miles a week commuting to and from London....

Staff blog: The myth of the Burgman's small tank

I've established the Suzuki Burgman 650 ABS Executive has a much longer tank range than it%X92s credited with.   Some reports have estimated it at 150 miles, probably because the fuel warning starts flashing at about 130. In fact you%X92ve got a bar left on the gauge and at least 40 miles in the tank at that point.   There%X92s a final warning,...

Staff blog: Blinded by handlebar muffs

In this week%X92s paper I report how the heated grips on the Suzuki Burgman 650 could be warmer. Just about every journalist on the launch in Scotland seemed to agree on the point. Some said they seemed to work intermittently.  Others questioned whether they worked at all. Suzuki scratched their heads and said they%X92d look into it. On the ride...

Suzuki C1500T first ride

They may be about as relevant in the UK as a 50ft Winnebago or eight-litre SUV but, if you hadn%X92t cottoned on already, %X91baggers%X92 - or be-bagged or panniered cruisers designed for comfort and custom style and, usually, also with Plexiglass screens, a relaxed riding position and footboards instead of conventional footpegs, are big news in the U S of A. Staff Blog: Bird Strikes

I'm developing a theory, or at least something more substantial than a random thought, that birds have it in for my Suzuki GSX-R750. Pigeons definitely don't like it.  Each morning they wait in numbers in the long grass until it's close, then, steady lads, explode from the verge in a syncronised show of disgust. Earlier this week a red kite,...
