R1200GS, KTM 990, XL700 or another?

Hi all,I passed my mod 2 last week and am looking for a big bike. I'm 6'4 so need a larger upright bike. I've been looking at BMW R1200GS's (can pick up a 2004/5 35k for about %XA34000) but have been told they are prone to electrical faults and will hemorrhage  cash whenever they need fixing. I quite like the KTM 990 adventure but it may be wasted on me as I'm not an off-roader.Transalp 700 seems a sensible and safe option but I think I'd need convincing when compared to the BMW.Hopefully you have some idea of what I'm looking ...

Are all dealers this rubbish?

I'm an old fart. Nearly 58 and just passed my test, so no excuses for acting like a 15 year old in my trembling excitement at the prospect of buying a new bikeWell I've done it, forked out the readies and now own, what I regard as a fantastic machine - 2013 XJ6-NA, pearly white and looks wicked to my dim old eyes. But I have one complaint. The dealerships. I kind of thought, that buying into the Yamaha brand, I might have been treated like a guy that's ...

Building a bike

So, I want to build a bike from scratch, or buy a bike that is in need of repairs.I have no idea where to search for such things, trawling through sites takes forever to find something even remotely close to my location that doesn't take 5 hours to get to.Anyone have any suggestions?

ownership of a bike

I would like to remember every bike I have owned and buy a die-cast of every model. However I don't know how to check. I've contacted DVLA and they sent me a V888 form but this requires me to remember the Reg, I only need to remember the bike I've ridden then buy the die-cast.Does anyone know how I can find out every bike I have owned? I can't even remember the different insurance companies i've used. I have been riding over 30yrs, so a lot of bikes to remember.

Decision To Be Made

So, I have a decision to make: The mighty Speed Trip is approaching 10 years old and 24000 miles. While it's in good nick (I've looked after it), it's starting to look a bit ragged around the edges, so do I chop it in for a new one or spend some %XA3 fixing what needs doing?I quite like the look of the R, but I reckon that I'd get about %XA33500 part ex leaving about %XA37500 to find :( where as I reckon spending a lot less would bring the S/trip up to scratch. So what do I reckon needs doing?1/ 24k ...
