Not really a new rider

Hi,Not really a new rider.Got my bike licence back in '92.Last rode a bike in 2000.Previous bikes were ratty and not fast - KMX 200 and R75/7.Thinking about getting an old BMW GS.I have seen some great low mileage ones from 1995 onwards.I assume I can ride one with my current licence?Given it has been so long want to go on a proper refresher course. My time spent riding a bike (mostly in London) has served me very well driving a car. Made me a better driver and saved me from a few accidents. Also pretty fit as have spent many years ...

First Bike

Currently going to do my CBT and then following up to do the Direct Access. Been looking at Bikes like the BMW GS or KTM adventure, if i do the direct access. But any idea what would be good if i stuck to a 125cc as i'm 6'8" and an inside leg of 36".

New Bike License - confirmation

Hi All,I have been researching the new license laws for bikes for a student of mine. As far as I can figure when he turns 17 he can apply for the A1 (up to 125cc) doing CBT, theory and 2 practicals. At 19 he will have to do another practical test to ride up to 35KW (A2) and again at 21 ANOTHER practical test to ride what he wants.Have I got that right? There is no automatic progression (like I had from old A2 to A). The bit that I can't find is what practical does he have to redo ...

New A2 Test, Bikes To Buy

I have a CBR125R and want to go upto something with a bit more kick so i am going to look into the A2 test. However, after looking at bikes to buy that fit the new rules (0.2kw per kg upto 47bhp) there doesnt seem to be any bikes that fit the bill (unless restricted post-production)Am i missing something or is this something the gov. knew was going to be the case?

First bike for a little lady? CG125? Van Van? Alternatives???

Afternoon folksWondered if I could tap you for some advice perhaps? My wife is taking her CBT next weekend (first time on a bike, apart from as a pillion).I'm looking for a bike for her.She is only 5'1" & weighs just less than 8 stone, so it would have to be something fairly light (& ideally easy to ride & reliable). It won't be doing mega-mileage, just something to get some experience on for a while. Not wanting to spend a fortune, around %XA31000 tops. (If something was really decent, I could go a little higher).Although she is fairly careful, as ...

bike advice for an unusual commute

Hi. I'm toying with the idea of getting a bike for commuting to work (cheap and fun!). Thing is, I commute to work over the bealach na ba to Applecross (some of you may know it...) which is 2000ft ascent and 2000ft descent over a 15 mile trip on twisty single track road.I'm looking at 125's because I've not ridden before. It's been suggested that a 4 stroke bike which is as much of an off-road bike as it is an on-road one would be best, I've been looking at Derbi's (Senda DRD 125 & Terra), though I've also been wondering ...

is there a degree course for understanding full licence requirements

For a start , might as well delete the links to the gov site as that has to be the most unclear and contradictary site I have been on in the last 2 hours trying to sort this out.The MCN guide to getting your full licence is better but still leaves me asking questions.I am 18 , have completed CBT and passed theory and hazard perception tests and now want to take the practical. I have been riding my 125 for over a year on a provisional. It seems I have to take the practical test driving a 125. If I ...
