legal tread depth

whats the law on tread depth on tyres ? if you hit the wear indicator down the centre of the tyre but the outside is ok , does it have to be changed ? Not a lot of bends on my commute to work so the middle of the tyre takes quite a bit of stick .

BMW F800GS

i've got a 2 year old 800gs, 11,000 miles on the clock, and the original tyres (Pirrelli Scorpions) are coming to the end of their legal life and therefore need to be replaced. The question is what to replace them with? I do mainly road riding, including a commute to work on motorways so am looking for something that will give decent mileage without squaring off. The original tyres are ok, but don't always inspire 100% confidence, especially in the wet. Any help/thoughts/experiences would be appreciated.

250 track tyres

I am looking to have some fun on track with my RGV250 N. I want to make sure I am using the best tyres. It is currently fitted with Michelin pilot powers. Are these OK or is there something better out there. I will be using tyre warmers, they need to be road legal but will only go out on road very occasionally, I keep my speeding for the track.

DOT Codes

Hi,anyone know how to decipher DOT codes? I know how to identify the tyre manufacture date but how do I know if a tyre is road legal. My tyre is has an 'E' mark but does DOT relate directly to the American Department of Transport? Do race tyres even have a DOT code on the side wall?ThanksTony

Winter riding tyre Swap

I ride throughout the year on a VFR but its obviously not suitable for snow etc. I have an old CB400 that I would like to use more and I was wondering if I could fit enduro type tyres to it for use if the snow comes. I have seen pirelli MT90 scorpion AT 90/90 R19 TT front and the same make 110/80 18 for the rear. Firstly, would they be legal and pass the MOT and secondly does it make a real difference having a 80 profile on ...
