Video: New KTM RC390 first ride

For the first time in years there%X92s a machine for young sportsbike fans to get excited about. If you%X92re 19 and have just passed your A2 licence you can rip up your L plates and pretend you%X92re wild-riding Aussie Moto3 star Jack Miller. Welcome to KTM%X92s new RC390! We sent MCN Senior Road Tester Michael Neeves to Italy for the first...

The SPecial One

Honda%X92s SP-1, or the VTR1000 SP-1 RC51 to give it its proper name, will always hold a very special place in motorcycle history. This is a bike born out of necessity %X96 not to mention a considerable degree of frustration%X85 Despite having HRC%X92s full weight behind it, the exotic RC45 was a flop both on the track and in showrooms and...

KTM issues

It's great to see KTM bringing great new bikes to the market. But you have to ask the question about their quality control. The new 125 tested in mcn this week had a terminal gearbox problem and the super duke on long term test hasn't been problem free. They are bringing much needed choice to the market, but these problems should have been sorted pre production. The Japanese bikes are a known quality and maybe not as exiting will get you home reliably.

Special K: BMW K1300S Anniversary

When it comes to %X91special editions%X92, BMW pretty much leads the way. Although Ducati and Triumph, in particular, have their own successful lines of %X91specials%X92 (bikes like the Tricolore or Steve McQueen Bonnie spring to mind), while the UK importers of Suzuki, Kawasaki and Yamaha are increasingly producing %X91Touring%X92 or %X91Adventure%X92 Packs and suchlike for existing models, BMW%X92s %X91Triple Black%X92,...

Golden oldie: Triumph T595 and 955i

Triumph needed to get it right first time with the T595 Daytona. Back in the sportsbike-crazy %X9290s, nothing less was going to cut it. With Honda%X92s FireBlade having set the standard, being good was never going to be good enough. Outstanding was the only way to be. Happily, the British bike-buying public was so sold on the idea of the...

Hesketh 24 first ride

The British revival rumbles on. Or in this case THUNDERS. And then some. Hesketh is the latest UK heritage motorcycle brand to be reborn, (following Triumph in 1990, Norton in 2009 and Ariel last month). And, with numerous others in development (Brough, Matchless and Metisse), having a union flag on your bike%X92s tank is clearly a fashionable place to be right...

We ride the Ariel Ace at Goodwood

It%X92s hard to believe the Ariel Ace cruiser really is a new bike. It%X92s seemingly come out of nowhere, is made by a car firm, and yet it%X92s already better than many established production bikes. The Ariel Ace cruiser is impressive during my quick blast up and down the famous Goodwood hillclimb. It rides beautifully and, crucially, doesn%X92t try to be...

Norton TT Racer On The Road

You can%X92t underestimate how hard it is to compete at the Isle of Man TT. It%X92s a mammoth task, and it%X92s almost impossible to convey with mere words the sheer scale of the mountain they have climbed, figuratively, and over the top of the island. But forget about the riding for a second; the logistics, planning and organisation alone are...
