Honda NTV600/650 (1988-1997)

The Honda NTV650 isn%X92t just about frugal motoring, a quality build and endless reliability. Because somehow Honda segued in a cheeky charm and a handling package that has to be ridden to be believed. Most Honda NTV650s will be a little tired after a decade or more on the streets but at the right price they%X92re simply superb motorcycles.

Kawasaki Z1000 (2014 - current)

The new 2014 Z1000 is a ballsy move by Kawasaki %X96 and not just because it looks like something out of a Terminator movie. No, it%X92s ballsy because it%X92s rejected the current (and often expensive) fashion for electronic rider aids, because it focuses on real world riding thrills rather than fantastic and often irrelevant (for a street super naked at...

Ducati Monster 1200S (2014-current)

In isolation I like the new Monster, which has character, looks good and is modern but still very much a Monster. The new liquid-cooled engine is much better than the old bike%X92s. There%X92s loads of mid-range and low-down grunt, and it sounds fantastic for a standard bike. The handling on the S model is excellent, just as happy on road...

BMW R nineT (2014-current)

BMW has cleverly embraced the latest retro fashion, drawing on its 90 years of motorcycling experience, innovation and heritage, and the R nineT takes its inspiration from all those BMW road and race bikes of old. But the R nineT is more than just retro looks and fashion. The build quality is superb and the attention to detail impeccable. It...

Triumph Bonneville (2000-current)

Triumph aimed the Bonneville like an arrow straight at the heart of Harley%X92s 883 Sportster. With a heritage to rival the Yank%X92s and a better riding performance the Triumph Bonneville is unquestionably the better motorcycle. The handling is more than respectable, the brakes markedly better and, of course, it%X92s British.

Kawasaki J300SE-ABS (2014-current)

The J300 is an excellent entry into the competitive scooter market and shows the firm is really serious about the market. It's sits perfectly between lighter 125cc scooters and much larger and heavier maxi scoots, combining a good spread of power with good, easy handling.

KTM 390 Duke (2013-current)

The current market seems littered with new, learner-friendly bikes, which are A2 licence compatible as manufacturers try to get new riders on board. The new 390 Duke may not have the touring ability of BMW%X92s G650GS or the sporty appearance of Kawasaki%X92s Ninja 300, but I think it should win the fun stakes and for most young riders that%X92s where...

Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade SP (2014-current)

Honda has given Fireblade fans a reason to smile. With its classy %XD6hlins suspension, Brembo monobloc brakes, blueprinted engine and drop-dead gorgeous HRC paintjob, the SP is the most desirable Blade in its 21-year history. With its improved handling, braking performance and grip, the SP is destined to be a faster-lapping, easier-to-handle track day bike than any previous model. And...

Honda NC750X (2014-current)

Riding the NC for any length of time reveals a bike that handles sweetly, brakes more than adequately, is comfortable, tackles scabby back roads well and, with the addition of the DCT gearbox, is easy to ride and super economical in terms of fuel use. There%X92s a lot to like. If, however, you want a bike that will be the...
