Video teaser: Ducati Desmo vs. Ferrari 430

Car v bike: which is fastest? It’s the age-old debate, argued in pubs, on internet forums, among friends, in magazines and on TV. To prove two wheels are better than four forever, we’re pitching arguably the best road bike in the world against one of the best road cars, in perfect conditions at the Almeria circuit in Spain.   Full video test now...

Richard there is nothing to back up your statement - lets wait and see the video. The bike should murder it on acceleration and match the Ferrari on mid-corner speed, though the car should be better on the brakes. As for the slicks on the bike, im pretty sure a 170k Ferrari track-day car  isnt fitted with crap tyres. If Top Gear had been making the video im sure they would have had a CBR600 racing the car. This is a good, fair match up I think

Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm interesting one...

Well the last few of this these done by 'Fifth Gear' ; between a 999 vs a Lamborghini Gallardo and a 1098 vs Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera both had the bike to win...

And being a true Ducatisti i am gonna hold out for the Desmosedici

DOWNFORCE WINS

There are many factors to be considered here. Without doubt to the first corner the bike will be a clear winner, however, with the down force that the car can utilise for cornering speed on most of the corners the car will win. The next big question is who are the pilots ie; are they professionals and if so that will give the car I believe the added edge. Another factor is the track and whether the corners are fast flowing or stop dead chicanes and I cannot remember what the Almeria track is like. Naturally I want the bike to win but once the Ferrari gets it's nose in front it will be extremely difficult to pull it back plus a Ferrari being drifted sideways into a corner takes a fair amount of track making it even harder for the bike to get ahead.

One problem....

Best CAR in the world....vs Best BIKE in the world....doesn't matter a jot if they're ridden / driven by Joe Average which is clearly where Neevsy would be classed.

Now if Schumacher was in the Ferrari & Stoner on the Duke....that would be worth watching.

Duke v Ferrari

If both vehicles are using the track at the same time then the results could be very different from when they have the track just to themselves. Bike will mullah the car on accleration but car will anhilated the bike on the brakes. If the car is in front around a corner it will just baulk the bike from being able to use its acceleration. The bike on the other hand isn't going to cause anywhere near as much of an obstruction to the car.

The car will probably win

It'll be close, but given the number of long sweeping corners at Almeria, the car would probably set a faster lap time.  It will be quicker in the corners than the bike, as it has four fat tyres in contact with the ground and more downforce.  It depends on who will be driving/riding though, as that can make quite a big difference in lap times, especially on a bike.  Cars are easier to drive near the limit........ as has been proved by a number of bike racers trying out car racing and getting close to lap record times, where as racing drivers having a go at bike racing is a whole different thing - usually miles of the pace.
