955i Speed Trip or 05' Sprint ST

Going back to Europe next year (06') for three weeks, but bringing missus this time. My next bike has to be a bike with character as i intend to keep it for a very long time. It has always been between four bikes. BMW R1150GS (too expensive to buy),Aprilia SL Falco (Cost of spares, servicing and question of Italian plastics), The Speed Trip (955i) or the Sprint ST (05'). I have whittled it down to the two Triumphs but really need to know what the Speed Trip is like to live with on a day to day basis. i.e. pillion comfort, luggage, comfort on a long trip. I tested an 01' model ST a couple of years ago but ended up with cramp in both my calves after 10 mins in a traffic jam so am a bit wary of the older model. Any input will be greatly appreciated..

Coulpa things spring to mind straight away, obviously the windblast at anything over 80 can be onerous, also the finish on some of the fastners is rubbish, in my case the bolts on the exhaust headers turned to rust in a matter of days. The throttle travel is too long for anyone without double jointed wrists and there is hardly any room under the rear seat. My wife much prefers the pillion provision to my old ZX-6R all though i couldn't say whether this makes it a good perch or not. Other than the fact that at 4500 miles mine has had some unfortunate piston v.s. valve connections it went like stink and didnt miss a beat. Couldn't tell you what the Sprint is like though.

Speed Trip

Many thanks for your replies. Got the missus to sit on the back of my local Triumphs Daytona 955i, as there Speed Trips' had seat cowls on! She was mightily impressed with the space and comfort compared to my TRX. I was mightily impressed with the Daytonas comfort from my perspective too! Still want the Speed Trip though........

955i comfort

just a couple more things for you to consider, my partner says my trip 955i 02 is not as comfortable to sit on as the zx7r i had before that. the seats are hard, the gel seatpads are an optional extra that maywell sort that. i paid 120 quid for a triumph luggage rack, what a pile of shite, a few kgs limit means a few bags of sugar, what use is that, and only a flat surface of a couple of inches meant i had to tie wrap some poles to it to stabblise my tent, it looks great though with nothing on it. the tank is non metalic so i had to buy some baglux gear at great expense. the bike apart from that is great, and the sound from the race pipe is the best around. its a sitty up sports bike not a tourer

Speed Trip

I haven't been on this forum for a while now, but in April i bought an '02 Speed trip! Also the rear rack and a gel seat to match. What a bike eh?....Had to buy a short screen and Scorpion cans too. Apparantly it's the law.....
