Read this story and pass on the details to every motorcyclist you know (send it as a link if you prefer). Detective Constable Tim Hinks of the Met Police’s economic and specialist crime unit says getting the information to as wide an audience as possible is the key to beating the con. The fraud works like this. First, a potential buyer contacts you and agrees a price for your bike – but only by email. They never want...

Scammed today?

Think I was close to being caught out today by someone with the following email address: The first email was pretty standard I guess but the reply to my email was very impersonal and offered to send me money, no mention of looking at the bike, so thanks for the heads up on the scamming front. Am grateful but ticked off as well

Attempted scam today

I too have recently been contacted by I Felt there was something wrong from the start. Poor english and grammar in his e-mails, fee agreed by e-mail, no questions asked about the bike and no contact since I told him I was unprepared to cash a cheque (or 'check') for a higher amount, and send the difference to his mechanic who would collect the bike know the rest!!! He even stressed the importance of 'creating trust and sincerity in doing business'. The Rat! Sellers beware. PS, anyone genuine want to buy a Triumph!!!!

Got the Scam too!

Got an email today from Carlos Cooker, wanting pictures of the Duc ST2 I'e just put up for sale. I sent him a few and got this email that you've probably all had in some form or another, saying that the asking price is fine, he will send a CERTIFIED cheque and that an agent would arrange collection etc!

Needless to say I cut him off! Email is: Claimed to be half German, half English.

Annoyed as I got quite excited about a potential buyer!

scammed again

Carlos must be a keen biker, he even wants to  buy my son's Derbi 50. This is the 3rd scam email I've received, 2 from MCN and 1 from Auto trader. In fact I haven't received any genuine emails. Google is good at finding these scammers. Becareful out there:winkie:

Guess what? Carlos Cookers ip address is which is based in Lagos, Nigeria. :-). I have also got an offer by 'certified' cheque. Am thinking whether to accept it, for the fun of it. Still waiting for a genuine buyer.
