How to spot a conman

Conmen are trying to make thousands from those of us selling our bikes – and it's time for us to join together and hit back. Read this story and pass on the details to every motorcyclist you know (send it as a link if you prefer). Detective Constable Tim Hinks of the Met Police’s economic and specialist crime unit says getting the information to as wide an audience as possible is the key to beating the con. The fraud works like this. First, a potential buyer contacts you and agrees a price for your bike – but only by email. They never want...

Scammers

Just got an e mail from Fred Fish asking about my K1300R mailed back and the response I got was as follows Hi thanks for mailing back,am okay with the condition and i will like you to get back to me with your concluding price for the bike,am buying it for my vacation, because i 'will be coming soon from our rig as am a petroleum project engineer on a rig offshore,i won't be able to come for the inspection due to the nature of my work,i would have love to call in person but we have call restriction due to bad weather condition.i will be paying you through PayPal,please get back to me with your PayPal details so i can proceed with the payment and contact the courier agent who will come to pick it up and deliver it in my place. Await your reply. Looks like the Nigerians are still up to it, notice no name at the beginning and the awful grammar tried to forward it on to the met police on the link but got an undeliverable message, guess the mail address is out of date. Seems like Fred is a very busy guy, unfortunately it's not on his oil rig!

Just received the exact same e-mail, thankfully it's pretty easy to spot as a scam. Will need to keep an eye out for any of the others mentioned here.

Castration sounds to good for these  ****ers

Please inform MCN of any further scam attempts

Further to my earlier post, I'm pleased to say that we've now launched our third anti-scamming measure (on top of the existing two). Previously we managed to filter out 80%+ of scam attempts, but we hope this new measure will achieve 100% success.

We're committed to helping and protecting our private advertisers and are confident this new measure will end this issue. However if one of these b*stards does somehow avoid our new detection system, and you do receive a dubious email (from 1st Dec onwards) please let me know at paul.harrington@bauermedia.co.uk.

Thanks in advance,
Paul.

 Hi guys.

Recently advertised bike on MCN and also the EBay. Hours later received a email asking "hi I've seen your advert is your bike still for sale?" . . . not much wrong with that I thought so emails back . saying "yes it is"

They reply back saying basically what's been said already with PayPal...can't come and inspect ...have a client collect and transport it.

At this point I know its a scam so no information was passed but I'm worried what can be done with my email and phone number now they have those bits of information

Thanks
