Yamaha MT-01 (2005-current)

The Yamaha MT-01 has radical, straight-from-show-concept-bike styling allied to monstrous road presence which gives this motorcycle a kick-in-the-teeth visual appeal like no other. Build and detailing is fabulous and the thunderous engine sounds like no other. Shame performance is merely average yet the price stratospheric, then.

AWESOME

I bought one of these big friendly monsters and got a brilliant deal £6499 with 30 months interest free. People always ask what is it and how fast does it go.... its hard to describe , it handles far better than it should for its weight , runs rings around my mates xjr 1300 .

I like to think of it as riding an angry bear , not the fastest thing on the planet but truly awesome and an experience not to be forgotten. the sense of hurtling mass is incredible and enjoyable beyond measure. Build quality excellent , finish excellent. I have just taken it 2500 mile across europe with pillion over 18 days- 5 countries no problems. Over the last 100 miles heading back to ferry caught up with a pan european ,BMW adventure and an FJR, stayed with them no problems cruising around 100mph.(tank bag allows this as keeps some wind blast off) got an average 45 mpg even 2 up with luggage, this figure doesnt change that much , no matter how you use or ride it. Range is its only weakness , i get 120 miles until the reserve comes on ,then ive got about 30-35 miles on top of that. it makes a great sound and always makes me smile AWESOME BIG BEAR OF A BIKE

Yamaha MT 01

I agree completely with Bigfatelvis.  I have had my MT 01 for a month, replacing a Firestorm.  OK the performance is less, mostly missing the top end, but it is much more comfortable and means no more aching wrists. It has bags of character combining modern and vintage features.

Deckard , luggage... we micro packed , tankbag from aldi £14.99 , and 18L backpack worn by pillion , no panniers!!! , filtered through lots and lots of traffic with ease - there are expensive luggage options out there ,but we had a fantastic time without

MT01

I've had my MT01 for 10 months, its a great machine, all the performance anyone will ever need,I took mine over the " Pass of the cattle road " from Lochcarron to Aultbea, one of the most twisty and steepest roads in Scotland, never used more than 2,500 RPM,no R1 could do that.

Lower Price

The review criticizes the £9k price tag, but in reality there are dealers selling MT-01's for £6299 (with a 24 month warranty).

Grrrrr! 'Frickin' GRRRRR!!

I love the MT01 and at today's discounted new and used prices its an absolute gem. Hats off to Yamaha for a bold move and a shame they have been burnt in the process. No I don't own one -It's not quite what I'm looking for (yet) but this is one under-rated machine. Needs the zorsts' to really shine. Why the f*ck a company as technically capable as Yamaha couldn't design it with a slightly bigger fuel tank is beyond me.
