New bike advice

Due to being knocked off my bike this week I may soon need a new ride.  I am ok (just sore), how ever the same can not be said about my Z750S or some of my kit.

Bikes I have considered so far are the: SV1000S, SV650S/Sport, Fazer 1000, Sprint ST 1050, R1200GS, F800S, VFR800, KTM Adventure, Bandit 1250S.  I am open to suggestions of other bikes to look at aswell as looking for opinions on bikes I have considered so far.

The bike will mainly be used for commuting (all year round), about 70 miles a day.  After that it is used for fun rides and a bit of touring.  I am not fussy about what badge is on the bike I just want a reliable bike that is fun to ride and will not fall apart around me after a year or two.

What ever..

..Bike you buy, use scottoiler fs365 anti -corrosion spray on it during the winter. It'll save you having to replace parts that get exposed to salt and water over the cold months.

I wish it was around when I started biking, we had to use loads of wd40 and waxoyl..

I used a scott oiler on my last two bikes and thought they were great and will be fitting another one unless there is no need (ie belt or shaft drive) fs365 was also used and rather good.  another thing I found useful was a garden sprayer (the type you pump up and use pressure to spray with), keep one in the garage with water in and use it to rinse the bike down after any ride where salt may have got into contact with the bike.

Recovery

Just thought I'd let you guys know how Im getting on, back walking around again.  Bit of a limp and need a crutch if going more than a few feet (just in case).  Barely any weight is being put through the crutch ever.  Hopefull will be able to give them back to the hospital next week, and I will be back to normal fairly shortly afterwards.

Still not sure whats happening with bike, but will sort that out next week.

What Bike?

Hi Spanky24

Looks like you've got plenty of good advise already but I thought I'd put my pennies worth in; I have a Sprint 1050 (07ABS in black, £7300 from Robinsons Rochdale) and it is the best of everything (except build quality), but another bike I’ve had in the past and in many ways regret getting rid of was the Suzuki V-Strom 1000! I know it's not the best looking thing in the world but it'll keep up with the GS and at a fraction of the price! (George Wards in Barnsley are the best Suzuki dealer I've come across)

Hope it all goes well,

Dave.
