Hibernation

Anyone got any advice on parking the bike up for winter.....mine's in a decent garage and is all safe and secure but I've had people saying things like spray it with WD40 or ACF-50.....

and wot if the battery goes totally flat......will it knack the battery or if it gets charged up again will it be ok....or do I need to keep it hooked up to an Optimate or the like.

Wud be grateful for any advice. Thanks in anticipation.

If it's a watercooled bike ensur the coolant is not too old. (over 2 years drain it off and replace) as well as anti-freeze it contains preservatives to assist anti corrosion in the internals. I also place a 40watt bulb in a buscuit tin under the cover and leave it on untill I'm ready to use the bike again. Hopefully to keep the chill and damp out.
