CRASH BUNGS

Hi Yoshi, Sorry mate also meant to ask you about crash protection for Bandit 1200. I must confess that I think the Bandit looks pretty naff wi any sort of protection but are bungs any good or worthwhile fitting. Don't fancy the idea and don't reckon they would be too effective if the bike was chucked down road at speed but they may help with low speed drop. What about engine armour?

Haven't tried 'em...

...I'm still undecided if they might do more damage than good (i.e. turn a cosmetic spill into a frame bender), I've read conflicting reports, my advice is don't fall off ;o) Having experienced the joys of sliding down the road/wearing thru the crank case engine armour is probably an excellent idea. I know a couple of guys who've fitted heavy duty cases (and one who has 'tested' them) so I reckon they're probably a worthwhile investment. I haven't seen the stick-on type carbon/kevlar armour in the flesh but I fear they might look a bit nasty (tho easier to fit). Any other bandido's had experience with crash bungs?

Yeah

I tried some R&G ones on mine and they looked like a pair of oil filters sticking out of the side!. Sold them on ebay and bought a belly pan.....much better!

Kevlar covers?! Ha ha ha ahahahahaha!

Having tested the original end cases I went for NRCs for a second attempt. Assisted in this second test by White Van Man I am able to confirm that the extra thickness of the NRCs allowed me to continue riding after the event. Indeed these same battle-scarred cases still adorn my machine. They're still better looking than any big nylon butt-plugs sticking off the frame or engine block. I can't believe those ones that mount on the head in the cam plug ports will mean the machine fares any better. Surely they're just going to wipe out the top-end? At least assist in knocking the frame alignment out?! Have you thought about engine bars as an alternative form of engine protection? . . . . Yeah ok, swiftly moving on . . . Stick-on covers? :) Would they be yellow-ish kevlar things? ;) Seem to remember a story about those . . . some advice I once gave out . . . now who was it? :D

Personally

I wouldn't bother, My B12 got knocked over by a car and the bars , fairings etc still got damaged even with R&G crash bungs on it. Bars would probably be best if you feel you need the protection otherwise just live dangerously and go unprotected IMHO.
