Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade (2008)

Since 1992 the name FireBlade has conjured visions of a hard-charging superbike with attitude. While this is true of the very first two models, since then the FireBlade became a model of respectability. The 2006-07 model was arguably the best road-going superbike by being fast and bland in the same wheelbase. The 2008 FireBlade comes with attitude from its rev-happy...

Its all to do with emissions & noise!!. The new exhaust (as you know) is very quiet below 6000 rpm, but the big pipe opens above this and sounds better!.

As regards different exhaust systems for the 08 blade: B&M Honda (Barlborough near Sheffield see http://www.bmhonda.co.uk/index.html) fitted a full Akrapovic exhaust system approximately £1000, but the sound was fantastic. It's unknown whether this exhaust system significantly affected the power curves....they didn't have time to put it on a dyno, it sold that fast!. Also, they are using a local company to fabricate a GP (double trumpet) exhaust which they hope to fit in the next week or so. They expect to do a dyno run with this on. I will let you know how it sounds, and what it does power-wise!!.

2008 Fireblade CAUTION

Ladies & Gents

If any of our have the above bike please check your oil levels.

I got an intermittent oil light when I started on Fri eve - turns out I have 'burned' 1.5 litres of oil in 1000 miles - I do not have any leaks. Please check your levels (and program your peripheral vision for your oil light!!).

Remember the required oil is 10W 30 (4 stroke) with the API SG label (see your bike manual).

My Honda dealer is checking with Honda about this - I will keep you up to date!.

2008 Fireblade - OBSERVATION

Ladies & Gents

Just a quick caution about the slipper clutch!. Seems to work well, however I had a massive rear wheel slide on change-down last week.

The worst possible situation: cornering, front braking (positive but lightish), downhill, and change-down (dry road). It was a pretty big slide, but I didn't feel threatened despite this!!.

Oil Burning Blade

Hi Des, thanks for the heads up, I have noticed while cleaning my pride n joy that there appears to be what looks like oil stains around the exhaust outlet, so I will keep my eye on the oil. Only done 300 miles at the moment, and cant wait to get past first service so I can give it big licks!

Regards

Tailo Tidy

By the way, anybody fitted a Evotech tail tidy? Are they worth the wedge?

RR8

No problem...I will let you know what my dealership has to say about the oil 'consumption'.

I was on a mission so I did the required ~600 miles in 2 weeks (well 2 weekends actually). I am already knocking on 2000 miles and the bike is only about 6 weeks old....bugger...:upset:!. It's a great bike.....get past that 600 miles RR8!.

Keep an eye on the Bridgestone BT015s...my rear tyre is wearing very quickly!!.

engine oil consumption

Agre!! my old last bike was the 07 blade and never have to put a drop in between servicing. To my horror ; 2500 miles after my first service- I found that the diptix level was just above minimum.!!!
