“Car drivers don’t need to be as careful as motorcyclists”

Car drivers have a lesser “onus” to avoid killing other road users than motorcyclists do, the UK’s national cyclists’ organisation has said. Roger Geffen, policy manager for CTC, said: “There is a greater onus on motorcyclists to avoid incidents where they end up killing people because they do it far more often.” Geffen was attempting to defend a claim he made...

It's wet and Geffen just dropped the soap

So if bike incidents and car incidents that kill pedestrians are like shotguns and water pistols I guess we're wetter than we are dead. Wasn't there a report or survey recently that said that pedestrians and cyclists caused more deaths in built up areas than motorcyclists? And the idea that car drivers don't have to be as careful...we all have to be careful, regardless of if you have a cage, a helmet or no protection at all. Peoples lives are in the balance and all this bloke seems to want to do is say that car drivers don't need to be careful because it's the bikers fault. Clearly he is just anti-bike, not anti-accident.

I'm sure there was report recently which stated that most cycle accidents were with other cyclists

so why don't we ban them?

Roger Geffen

Despite his title, Roger Geffen does not speak for most cyclists, only commuters. He has his own agenda which seems to be anti private motor transport. As a member of the CTC (for the insurance)I have told him my opinion and got a load of flannel in reply. None of my cyclist or biker friends have a problem with each other, only with the twits who refuse to obey the rules. One other point, the CTC has been hijacked by the anti motor vehicle lobby who don't, or will not, see that cyclists and bikers have more in common than not and I speak as both.

Bullsh**

Firstly, this guy is an idiot to make statements like that without the facts... and second, do you honestly expect me to believe that (given how many cars are on the road compared to bikes) bikers are responsible for more deaths on the roads than car drivers? What a load of shite - i'd love to leave this jack ass alone in a room full of wild, hungry, rabid dogs for 15 mins!!! what a cock!
