AMA Superbike: Mat Mladin blasts proposed 2009 rules

Six-time AMA Superbike Champion Mat Mladin used the podium at Infineon Raceway as a pulpit to blast the proposed 2009 rules package for the AMA Superbike Championship. Just after getting beaten by team-mate Ben Spies, for the third race in a row, this time by over six seconds, and after accepting the second place trophy, Mladin addressed the crowd.  “If...

Mat

Im sure some of the top guys in america could get rides in wsb etc so all they have to do is lay the law down to the promoters and tell them what rules they want or else they will all go race in another championship

Backwards

Would anyone in WSB change the rules to make the factory race bikes more like superstock??? The likely answer... OF COURSE NOT! So why are the AMA trying to go backwards??? Get a support class of superstock bikes at the AMA superbike rounds (like WSB) and use it to bread new riders. Doesn't that sound like a better idea?

Good stuff

Nice to see a rider speaking up and not being the usual puppet that they can be. These guys risk their lifes every other weekend so they should speak up and say what the believe in. The AMA is still one of the premier national race championships, these changes that they speak of will drop it into oblivion. I agree with dev_d7... why go backwards??? Especially in America... the country that wants everything of theirs to be bigger and better than everybody else's.

Speak up indeed!

Fans should be writing AMA and the teams as this thing is going down fast with the Grand shAM folks running or ruining it. They wrecked sportscars, messed openwheel, tried to steal dirt track cars and now this.

Say no to NASCAR

Well done Mat Mladin. Unfortunately AMA racing is about to go NASCAR on two wheels - I hope the rednecks show up - bike racing fans will not. Daytona = "World Center of Racing". Indeed.
