Rossi takes incredible win at Laguna Seca MotoGP

Valentino Rossi has taken victory at Laguna Seca in one of the most fantastic MotoGP races for years. Casey Stoner dominated practice all weekend but come the race it was Rossi that pulled it out of the bag to put incredible pressure on the Ducati rider. The opening four laps were absolutely amazing with the two riders swapping places constantly - at one point...

why all the fuss?

everyone knows no matter whether rossi wins a worldchampionship or not, he has ALWAYS been the best rider on the track battling through all sorts of problems. Him and JB make an unstoppable combination. so stoner thinks it was a tough and dangerous race? try WSB and learn the same tactics JT has when he came to motogp and showed them how to overtake. even better, come back to the UK and learn your craft again, this time properly. so people here think he's a W*$*ker, well truth be told you are. racing in britain because the austrailian championships are garbage doesn't mean we HAVE to like you, in fact it generally means we dislike you more especially after a few seasons here you seem to be able to charm your way into GP teams while our guys struggle. actually charming your way in may be a bit over generous after yesterdays post race comment; maybe you have other skills that we haven't heard of that get you the rides. anyway, be interesting to see what happens next year when haydon, who has a similar style to stoner, joins ducati.Melandri is too smooth for the bike, he's not a shit rider, he just can't ride a bike that doesn't suit his style and can't be adapted to it. OK rant over, you all have fun. i don't care what people think about what i have written, it's my observations/opinions but casy, stop listening to Doohan on how to conduct yourself infront of the media, he was a w*n*&r too

Travis73, mate you are the only person with anything half decent to say and I agree with you completely. Most of this is a pile of mumbling crap alondg the lines of 'we all love Vale but Casey is a wanker'. So what who you like, it was risky/dirty riding and it doesn't matter a shit who was involved. We got pretty used to Valentino complaining last year didn't we when he was getting beaten? Remember the teddies out of the cot when Elias did him in Istanbul? then it was 'I want Bridgestone's or I'm not playing!' Pull a silly face and wave to the camera and it seem's you are forgiven. For the record Valentino rode a great race to win but some of his passes were dirty! The season is no way over so guy's quit the bitchin' and just enjoy it.....whoever you like!

Stoner

Give Stoner a little credit - after all, he was the only one to keep up with Rossi. Rossi outclased him, yes, but Stoner and his Duke were more than up to it. Rossi's race was superhuman and a classic but Stoner had a fair few decent overtakes too. He is not a W*****, not at all. He may whinge but isn't MotoGP about the racing? I'm a Rossi fan and was supporting him all the way at Laguna, but the two dicing was amazing. Rossi is King. Stoner is being taught.

rossi / stoner

well stoner has just shown what a spoilt brat he is, he was shown a lesson or 2 and he didnt like it . he needs to grow up and take defeat with some sort of dignity, ok ill admit that rossi was on the limit but as far as i can tell he was totally fair = hard cheese stoner you where given a lesson so stop bitching and learn from it!! as parrish has said in the past after all its racing not knitting :) and i cant remember when rossi has ever bitched about another rider when hes been defeated ( has he ? )

Rossi win

Loved all the comments, wow, the best GP and, lets face it, best sporting spectacle for a long time.

Casey??? Stuffed, mentally, physically & outridden, and he knew it. It's bike racing for gawds sake, I thought Rossi rode his best ever last season & never got any breaks, he's proving it now. No rider has been this good.

Yes,he bitched everytime Stoner beat him last year it was always because his bike was to fast, his tyres were to good or his traction control was to good. You have a short, selective memory....sorry.Also, remember the first seaon in MotoGP when Stoner was on the Honda and going quick? Yes, he fell down to much but Rossi realised then he was going to be a threat longterm and started the mindgames then. He was questioning his ability to ride on worn tyres from as early as the first race when it was clear that he was going to be fast. Rossi doesn't waste time on people who are no threat, and also he was quick to stop him from getting a ride at Yamaha wasn't he? For the record, Jeremy Burgess has always been a fan of Stoner and Rossi knows that. He didn't want him to close that was for sure.

This thread is the best thing on the web today...

There are some seriously passionate people on here and I feel this subject has the strength to run forever!!! If Stoner had caught up with Rossi on the cooling down lap and congratulated him/slapped his back then done some wheelies n'shit his fan base would have doubled over night. The racing was exciting, Stoner was incredible as was Rossi; they were so far ahead of the rest it was just rude! But no matter how disappointed Stoner was or angry because he felt the racing was out of order, he needs to realise that his job is not just about winning races; he has to learn to give the fans what they want. A good fan base brings good sponsors and in today's racing environment, if you don't have good personal sponsors, you don't get to stay in the motogp circus!!

I think that Casey needs to remember that this isn't a gentleman's track-day he's on, it a World Championship he's fighting for. Comment's like "some of the passing moves were maybe a little bit too much and past the point of fair or aggressive" just show that he doesn't realise that it's Valentino's JOB to win races at all costs. It's what he's specifically employed to do by Yamaha. The sooner he comes to terms with this the better, and dist out some agression of his own. Other than that, it was a fantastic race.

PS - I reckon if he hadn't binned it, Stoner would have had him by the end of the race.
