The 10 best parts for the Kawasaki ZX-10R

I think it's fair to say that the Kawasaki ZX-10R is the most hardcore sportsbike money can buy. Ever since the first model was launched in 2004 it's had a reputation as a bike for experts only. With about 180bhp on tap, it's not hard to see why. Here's a run down of the top ten accessories for the ZX-10R, as...

ZX-10R

I have a 2004 that I race and it's an unbelieveable bike!  Something worth mentioning is the conversion to a 55-series rear tire.  The 2004-2005 model comes with a 190/50 tire.  If you want to run a 190/55 from any company you would notice a huge difference in grip at the rear - for the better, however, there are some crucial modifications to make this transition on the 2004-2005 model.

First off you will have to get a new chain that is slightly longer.  The taller 55-series tire will rub the swingarm and mudguard so you must move the axle back about 15 mm, if you are planning a sprocket swap this might be a good opportunity to solve two problems at once, personally I went with a DID 520 EVR3 with lightweight front and Renthal 41 T rear.

Second, there is a 3.2 mm spacer above the rear shock top mount that needs to be removed - this is important.  The 2004-2005 model is very sensitive to swingarm angle so be sure to remove this.

Third, if you have an aftermarket shock, reduce it's overall length to 333 mm eye-to-eye, which is the shortest it can be, generally speaking as I have run both Ohlins and Elka.  Run your front forks between flush with the top triple clamp or 2 mm showing above the top triple, depending on tire brand.

This will have the 2004-2005 ZX-10R handling like a dream and all the grip you will need!

2006 Ten

I have a 2006 ZX-10R in Titanium, the best looking 1000cc ever! The thing is so quick and handles brilliantly.  I've got HEL braided lines, official Kawasaki screen (essential), Motrax DHM crash protectors (well-priced, essential), twin Akrapovic cans (look good, sound even better) and carbon heel plates. The latest ZX-10R doesn't have the midrange and I love the underseat cans on the '06, so I won't be trading-in for a long time yet.
