‘Motorcycle detection system’ on roads by Easter

A new surveillance system designed to track movements of motorcyclists on the roads will be operational by Easter, MCN can reveal. The technology can tell motorcycles apart from other vehicles, measure their speeds and will be able to read number plates under plans. Data such as the routes taken by individual motorcyclists along with time and date will be collected...

Emigrate to avoid all this stress?

You mean to somewhere like Afghanistan or Zimbabwe?  I wonder how many of our indignant compatriots have actually had their collars felt in this context and, if they have, haven't desrved it?

As for those thrill seekers who can't live without risk, why not join the Army?

Invasion of Privacy

I think its about time we all got on our bikes and followed the people responsible for the implementation of this system, from government, cheif of police etc etc  24 hours constantly videoing their movements .....

or would this be classed as an invasion of privacy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Photograph the police?

Funny you should say that, Gazzarossi, but as of yesterday it's illegal. Incredible, eh?

Simple.......

if this is to be the way......do what they do in this area....BURN THE BASTARDS DOWN.

Quite a few static cameras have gone this way in my area...no one knows whos responsible but we do know that the Council cannot afford to keep replacing them.
When will the Government and Police and Councils learn to Fuck off and do something worthwhile, like fight real crime, Burglaries, drug dealers, idiot youths wandering the streets stabbing people because someone had the check to disrespect them by looking at one them????? Ten minutes in a dark alley...i'd fucking disrespect you!

New detection routes

The answer is simple to this kind of persecution -   PUBLICISE IT THAT NO BIKER OR CAR DRIVER FRIEND OF BIKERS EVER USES THESE ROUTES STAYS IN HOTEL OR DOES ANY SHOPPING ON THESE ROUTES AND NOT IN NEAREST TOWNS.  Result -  Well first one is quite funny (correction hugely funny!) the people who put the things up find themselves grilled as to why spent loads of money on something that doesn`t have any use `cos no bike ever found on it !!   Second one is local businesses downturn (especially in previously popular biker areas) and local councillors risk losing seats as local Chamber of Commerce at best or at least individual businesses take them to task.  eg Derbyshire Imagine effect on Matlock Bath with no bikers!   Plenty of other nice counties to go to eg Durham where no fixed cameras. North Yorks., friendly parts of same county with nice roads. I live near some of these routes there are lots of parallel roads and B roads to have a burst on instead. Hardly any inconvenience at all to avoid and some better routes nearby if have to travel in an unfriendly county. Never understood obsession with Cat and Fiddle - loads of other ways into Cheshire that are warmer (lower) and just as interesting.  Another nice one if have to use the route would be to travel at 40 mph all way and then two effects -   other drivers would be turned against thing cos bikers actually keeping to limit and again no chance of recouping money or justifying set-up. About time these nimbys were sorted with own medicine.       I don`t advocate bad driving or riding but this obsession with persecution is a different thing.  Nedd

lets get legal??

Come on MCN legal team, MAG,BMF !

This must be victimisation & invasion of privacy why doesn't someone take this to to european courts???

Not a bad idea Nedd I live in this area and there are some cracking roads, I will be avoiding the "George Orwell" routes also - heres an idea, when we enter these cameras why not put the word around for any bikes to slow down to walking speed when passing these sites, this would slow down all other traffic and would cause much annoyance and many complaints for all other drivers and  the locals, etc.

Why not get enough bikes to gather into large groups  and all ride as a protest group, imagine the effects of this if all camera areas were targeted on aregular basis

Fact is " big brother" is getting to big for its boots, the police are allowed to invent and install their own laws, God only knows what we will suffer in the future not only as bikers but also individuals.

Saftey

I like the constant yes SOME people hit the scenery and SOME people over take at warp speeds but these SOME people are the reason these cameras are being installed. This area has one of the HIGHEST casaulty rates in the country. Did you hear that? more people throw themselves at the scenery here than almost any where else in the country. More people ride these roads at warp speed and die than any where else. Slowing them down WILL make it easier for them to take the next bend, wether it has mud and crap on it or not. Slowing them down will prevent them from panicing , hitting the brakes sitting up and meeting a car coming the other way. I speed everywhere but not when I don't know the roads. As I said in my last post, out of towners try the cat and fiddle and don't make it home. A lot of em.

motorcycle detect system

I think the human rights groups have good cause to be concerned about this system, consider this how long will it be before it is used to track people based on colour, gender or even could be used by pervert police getting their kicks and we all know there are quite a few of them around that never get caught, i wonder why?

this should not be allowed to happen the best way to show our contempt for the system are some of the ideas that have been suggested.

motorcycle detect system

Just as an extra point; if the police are that concerned about bike safety on certain roads at certain times of the year why not do what the isle of man does and open the roads up to motorcycles only days or motorcycle and sports cars only days that people pay a small fee to rip it up along these roads on specific days of the year not only would the area benifit from such occassions with increased sales and profits but the roads would be made safer with the use of proper medical teams on stand by and every one would have fun.

Either that or the local councils will find themselves out of pocket from all the fires being set on the camaras.

They have a golden opertunity to turn this part of the UK into a real place of interest the farmers could use their fields to make money from storage of the recked bikes and even provide refreshments and break down recovery services.

I see a golden egg with these routes one that needs to be developed but of course that takes comon sense to a situation, turn a negative into a positive and if they still want the camaras sell photos of the action to the public on the meeting days and enforce the laws on none meeting days that way everyone is happy, but to simply target bikes is wrong.

All good thinking and comments, lets arrange it...

Everyone seems to be in agreement that these cameras are a massive invasion of privacy and the information recorded will be abused to the maximum by the local authorities. The Police do very little to give bikers (in fact the general public) any reason to want to work with them instead of avoid them.

We have our feelings and we have the power now lets get it together as a community and put it into action.

We need the backing of MCN, MAG and BMF and we need regular time slots at the busy weekend periods. We meet at locations know to the locals in large numbers, break no lawys but follow the routes specifically targeted and we bring them to a crawl. We take over the roads, we form a convoy and according the wisdom of the authorities we will be safe and sound and everyone will be very happy because no speeds will be broken and no overtaking will be done therefore no danger eh?

Ah, did I mention we don't need to use our bikes? We use vans, cars and anything with tyres and leave bikes as an option. There must be some trucker sreading this that head the convoy with some seriously large and slow machinery?

Come on guys, lets put some time in and show them they've just wasted £100,000 and seriously dented the average bikers trust once again in our all wise Governement!!!!!

Come on MCN - take the bull by the horns and make this happen - we're in. I live 20 mins away from Matlock and I'm sure many more do. We don't have to all be best buddies just team up for the 'bigger picture'.
