Video: World first ride on the Norton Commando 961

MCN's Phil West is one of just a few people in the world to have ridden the new Norton Commando 961. Play the video to see close-up details, hear the Norton's raw growl and watch action footage of Phil riding the bike on Donington's small test track.  "I've ridden so-called 'aspirational' production bikes which fail to come close to the Norton's mouth-watering style, impressive finish and peerless...

How nice!

If I won the lottery I think I'd buy one of these. They look fantastic. Just been to the Norton site but there's no prices on there. But I think they're ace.

A thing of beauty

Isn't it wonderful, my Dad used to run around in one of these, aye the original ones, they were fantastic bikes then, what  life, being at the age when I get to see nee witness the rebirth of a truly exiting bike. Well done Norton, that's the only badge required on this bike, Ohlinns need to step down and know that it's their suspension on this bike, remove the sticker and say Norton loud.

Norton Commando "WOW"

Thank the lord we have the Norton brand back, I agree dump Ohlins do your own bouncy bits. Norton. I guess to be on a level playing field with Triumph, the price would have to be around the same price as the Hinckley built Triumph T100 Bonneville, to be competative. If they were I would dump the Tiger 1050 I own ((had nothing but trouble with it from day one)) and climb aboard the Norton. Well done to the guy (i forget his name) who picked up the ball and ran with it to bring back a true legend of a bike, with Iconic status. I just love the sound of that huge parallel twin when it buttons of the throttle....."Long live the Norton brand!!!!

PS are they fuel injected?

"Play the video to .............. watch action footage of Phil riding the bike on Donington's small test track."

Oooooooooooh !

Seven whole seconds of footage !

On the strength of that wonderful piece of film -  I must rush out and buy one !

Has that bike actually been assembled in this country, or is it just one of the American prototypes that's been sat around for the last couple of years ?

Norton Commando Video

MCN manages to maintain the usual sh@&e / interest ratio that they use in the paper - 95% sh@&e / 5% interesting. Is it me or are they getting worse? If the paper gets any less interesting I'd be better off spending my money on the Daily Sport - come to think of it!

New Norton?

This thing doesnt sound good from the trillsecond of video. It just sounds like an old tractor. The engine from the side looks like the old K2 SOHC 750 Honda that helped in the demise of the British bike industry, or should I say that the Japs were innovative and improved on old brit technology (horizontal split crankcases to keep your mams drive clean! Why didnt the brits try to improve?) Twin rear shocks!!??

I wouldnt have one given me, well ok I would but only to sell on and buy something that looks, sounds and (I presume) goes half well. How long can Norton last this time? Building bikes that will sell from a nostalgic perspective wont make for longevity of sales IMHO
