Three inline wheels better than two?

A Paris-based bike designer has come up with a new form of motorcycle – with three inline wheels. The idea is to keep all the fun and manoeuvreability of a two-wheeled bike, but make it harder to crash. "The basic layout of a bike has hardly changed since it was invented," says Julien Rondinaud. "Riding a bike remains very dangerous: there’s...

I love innovation...

But where does the radiator go? Airbox? Is the engine a dry sump? Oil? That fuel tank looks a tad high... etc..etc... more of a design exercise really isn't it?

Imagine Honda giving it a shot: "You did such a good job packaging that ABS into a blade that we are giving you a promotion... your next job is to mass centralise a third inline wheel on a seperate swingarm with its own brake! We want the weight and wheelbase of a blade. Go!"

Okay so wheelies are out.  Stoppies are possible.  Sliding the tail is probably also out.  Parking spots just got bigger.  Slow speed cornering - back to the 3 point turn - does it have a reverse gear?   Ah French design, just saw the direction of the chain - its for that direction...  Harder to crash?  Hope not.

contrived ...

... and it'll never happen.  the reason we've had two wheels since 1885 is because it works well.  go and buy a car.
