ZX10R - Is it totally nuts?

Hi, I currently own a ZX9R, or maybe that should be I did own one... I put it under a bus just over a week ago. The bus made a pretty fair stab at destroying it and so it has a bent frame and no front end to speak of. Anyway, I'm looking at new bikes (haven't fully decided not to salavage the 9R yet, but considering all my options). I've read several reviews of the 10R and they all say it's completely bonkers and is likely to kill you the first time you open the throttle. And if you make it past the first time it'll kill you the second time with some violent slapper. Is it really that bad (unstable)? What's it like to live with? Difficult in town? I've been riding 14 years now so am experienced. By no means the fastest on the road, but I'm no slouch either. I'd really appreciate your thoughts. PS: I'm also considering a Fireblade but am worried by the reviews which say you have to go so much faster to have the same buzz.

Don't believe bad press, had mine 2 months-love it! Only bonkers when you want(9000rpm+), otherwise it's a doddle to ride, especially around town thanks to nimble handling. Had a damper fitted b4 it left showroom though, had a couple of small weaves-no scares. softened rear compression off 1 and a half turns-much better now.

I recommend a damper if you're going to go over 120mph. Pirelli Diablo's are good. Turn in and lean angle are a surprise, coming from a GSXR 1000 - by which I mean it's in a different (higher) league By "Is it totally nuts?" - if you mean "Is it unrideable?" - then No, it's great - but if you mean "Is it as fast as labour government onto a bandwaggon?" - then yes - it's quiiick Overall - great bike - no probs in 4000+ miles from March 05

ZX-10R - Is it totally nuts?

Dear Pods, I was in the fortunate position of getting both a GSXR 1000 K5 and a ZX-10R at the same time last month (did have Ducati's before but Ducati screwed me around so much I convinced the Mrs of "buy 2 for the price of one"). Apart from the GSXR being in hospital as we speak, (the result of a clash with a Saga policy holder), I can say that for pure enjoyment the Kwak does takes some beating. Maybe it does get a bit wobbly after 120+ (but I haven't put a damper on yet and doubt if I will as I can't really take it to those limits ) but it's really a great ridng experience and not intimidating. Hey, if you buy a 1000 sports bike, don't expect not to react if you give it some right hand. Must say I would not swap the Kwak for a Fireblade, nor for a K5 GSXR for that matter.

Reasuring to know Quin. Especially the info on not having a damper. I was thinking of not having one while I run it in and see what's what. Thanks. PS: GSXR AND a ZX10R, you must have a VERY understanding Mrs!

10 R

Hi Bro, What a bike they rrrr, i could praise it all day long, although not for the faint hearted and does like attention like a spoilt child. However, i have just found cracking to the frame ??? also found some others who also had the same thing on the 04 models, any way this is a problem that may need addressing but if you are asking yourself holy crap, then to set it straight unlike the frames??lol i went straight back out and bought another. What a bike, she is lethal if you let it be lethal Regards keiron

step away from the bike

If you read the posts on here you will see that there are many of us who are experiencing a few problems with the ZX10. It is a shame, its my 1st 1000cc bike, previous bike was a 400 and I only rode that for 2 months, on collection the bike was awesome, but now after riding it for 2 months and having to garage it since May I am totally not impressed with it. Went on an R1 for comparisson, now that was a dream bike to ride.
