replacing springs

Hi,

I need to replace the rear damper on my scooter but i want to keep the spring as it's colour matches the rest of the bike. is it possible to remove the old spring and put it on my new 2nd hand damper unit?

Bike is Piaggio NRG MC3 (Jordan) 03 reg.

cheers

Dave
