Ducati Streetfighter S (2009-current)

The Ducati Streetfighter looks like a crashed 1098 superbike but packs so much presence and attitude it works standing still. It needs to because at £13,995 for the S-version we rode here, it has a hell of a lot of competition on its hands in one of the biggest-growing classes in the UK. Ducati claim it’s the lightest bike in the...

Funny you should say that chief, we've got a test with the MV, Streetfighter and Super Duke R in this Wednesday's paper.

Real world bike

I had a go on one of these and I found it was good at everything. It's got plenty of bottom end power for most people(normal riders will find it quite rapid, unlike mcn riders, lol), it seems to pick up about 4000 rpm but below it pulls pleasently. I never had the chance to really get it on the move but it definately a missile. The steering is effortless and the sitting position is more upright so the comfort isn't too bad, some say the exhaust pipes kind of get in the way but I never noticed that because I was having too much fun. It's a very easy bike to ride and i've even rode one in the wet which I was slightly concerned about having lots of power and strong brakes but it don't feel like it's going to do anything wrong. The brakes are fantastic and need just a gentle touch but are very powerful when you need them to be. The suspention feels like your floating on air but you can feel what is happening at the same time. It basically does the riding for you whilst you look where you want to go. It's definately an awsome machine. Going slow is fairly easy but with a large torquey vtwin I very much doubt your want to stay in town for too long. It isn't too hard to go slow on but it's far easier to get a move on. Test ride one for yourself.

look closer

If you look at the torque curve you will see it comes within .5 - 1 ft.lb at 5000rpm and continues virtually straght across the board to peak at 8000rpm and then some.

Rating accuracy?

Apparently Michael Neeves reviewed this bike with a higher rating on his long term report! I don't understand the 3 stars when he says that is one one the best bikes he has ever ridden in 98% of the times! I don't get it really...

"It’s well made and uses some of the best quality components fitted to a naked bike. It’s the pimp daddy of naked bikes with stuff that wouldn’t look out of place coming out of a BSB paddock. Lashings of carbon fibre, Ohlins suspension, Marchesini wheels, full race-spec Brembo brakes and that deep red paint all look like a bike that will last the distance. What we’re not so sure about is the unfinished look with pipes and wires sticking out and a it looks like it could be a nightmare to clean."

Which is why you gave it three stars out of 5 !!!!!
