Where does your love of motorbikes come from? What was the influance in you getting a bike?

My dad had bikes for as long as I can remember and so did his dad, also my great-grandad was a biker, so that goes back quite a bit.

I love the freedom, the wind, atmosphere, the social circles and the speed.

What got you into it?

I know this has been posted before. but many new members have joined since. So what got you into biking?

You will hear the Duke arriving at Boxhill...from about three miles away.  That should make you smile:wink:

Happy Days

It seems that most of us "older" bikers were influenced by our parents in one way or another from a very early age, (see previous post). My father also had a bike, a BSA I think, and I used to love riding on the back, giving hand signals on the way to see my grandad. No protective clothing in those days!  He used it to go to work on about 6 miles away like most folk I suppose. He bought our first car, a Ford Pop, in 1964 and never rode again until he was 70 when I gave him a Honda Melody that I had hanging around the garage. He still used hand signals!!

My first 2 wheeled transport was a Raleigh Wisp moped which I used for work and I loved it. I progressed onto an Excelsior with a 98cc engine and only two gears but it ran rings round my mates on their FS1Es. Downside was that the local bobbies used to stop me regularly. Not because of my riding but because they all wanted a go on it. They all had Norton Commandos at the time and I told them that they could as long as I could have a go on their bikes! They refused of course. That was sold to buy my first car and I gave up biking but never lost interest in al things bike related.

Marriage and kids followed and I decided that for my 40th birthday I would finally take my test, something I should have done 20 years earlier but as you could ride a 250 on L's in those days it didn't seem necessary. You could even carry a pillion provided they had a full licence. I finally got a "real" bike, a brand new Divvy 600, and although It had to go when I got divorced I was bitten again and couldn't imagine not having some form of two wheeler to play on. I've got a choice of 4 in the garage now, from a ped to a CB750. All old but who cares!

My Uncle

My Dad never had one, but my Uncle and his brother did. His brother died going to fast in the wet on leaves but my Uncle still rode till he died of cancer!

My Mum never wanted me to get one and said they were too dangerous, but lifes too short! Always wanted the freedom that a bike offers, and like tulip, I love the sound when you hear one roaring down the street (not as obsessed tho me thinks :winkie: )

Also, going way back, Maverick had one in Top Gun! I wanna race a jet on the run way, brilliant!

Ride safe and enjoy it I say.
