Waterproof soft luggage panniers

Hi all,
Does anyone know of any waterproof soft panniers?  I've been looking all around and the waterproof ones seem to only have a waterproof 'shower cap' style thing.  I don't understand why they can't just make a textile bag waterproof(without the shower cap thingy)...I commute to work in heavy rain in textile rst gear that is waterproof so why not the panniers!?!  If you know of a type that works well - I'd appreciate the advice.

Cheers

Booked holiday - better get the luggage now!

Cheers for the replies - I've booked a holiday cottage in wales so the race is on now for me to make up my mind and get some luggage to get myself and my better half to the cottage or we'll have to take the boring ol' cage.  How did the oxford panniers work out for you Jeni?

I think I'm the same as you glen - my lady will have 80% of the luggage space and I will probably be left with a tank bag.  Now if only I could persuade her that the helmet does a much better job of straightening her hair than her tong thingys I might just fit in some of my clothes!

Hi

The oxford ones seem fine, I managed to cram a shit load of stuff in so they should see me through a weekend.  Not tested how waterproof they are, as I only tried them, then went for a quick spin to see how heavy they felt and how the bike handled.  They seem to fit well,  so for £40 I aint complaining.  I might buy one of those blanket things tho to put underneath to protect the paint work.  But so far i'm happy with my purchase.  I'll update this when ive been away for a weekend tho

Oxford Product Update

After a weeks testing on a trip to the Isle of Skye, I can confirm that the Oxford First Time Panniers and Tail Pack are absolutely bloody brilliant - they were quick and easy to put on, were large enough to carry all my crap around all week and they stayed bone dry, even tho it was pissing down most of the time.  So for luggage at an affordable price (under £70 for the set), I think it's great value and I would recommend to anyone looking to buy luggage at the moment

Ortlieb

Google 'Ortlieb Panniers'

Not the most fashionable and not the cheapest but they are bloody well made and fully waterproof...  I think Hein Gericke sell the panniers too, thats where I got my rollbag from...

panniers

I had some oxford panniers a while back (which did fine for a while) but they burnt through with heat from the exhausts. got a different bike now and the exhausts shouldn't come in to play but was wondering if anyone had heard any reports good or bad about this system?

thought it looked pretty smart.

I have...

Genuine Honda soft panniers on my bike. Most soft panniers come with 100% water proof covers so all of them will be water proof.

Even my Honda ones are only waterproof when covered .
BTW... When I take a pillion the bags touch the exhaust but are not effected.

Having tried

various makes over the years and even had hard Krausers leak:mad: i now dont trust any of them and rely on the old faithfull bin bag inside the pannier and have never had a leak since i started using them, bonus is they are readily available and a lot cheaper than some of the so called waterproof panniers

Hello,

I have just purchased an excellent 100% waterproof bag from Shop4bikers who have a range of new soft luggage. They are manufactured in 100% heavy duty PVC, in black with silver relective strips, fully welded seems, uses fold up securing system.

This is new product as they website informs you that the Dri Pack range are being launched at Motorcycle Live 2011 on Fat Skeleton Stand X10 Hall 3.

You still can purchase them online www.shop4bikers.co.uk as I have just received the item in the post. Excellent product and service.
