In trouble, until...
Back in '89 I was crusing up the A32 to Lower Farringdon to the BMW dealers for some spares for my Ex-Police R80RT on my Rickman Honda (that bike led me astray far too often), coming through East Tisted at ~ 40 mph (60 limit back then) following traffic I spotted the local copper by the church who seeing me started walking off.
Didn't give it a second thought, carried on and as we cleared the village used the bikes grunt to clear the traffic safely, looking in the mirror's I see a Panda with it's single tit on now trying to overtake the same traffic, but against oncoming traffic.
Wound her up until Lower Farringdon, down to 30 at the limit signs & cruise into BMW place park bike and walk in, sound of two tones is getting louder, other riders in front of me look round, to see the Panda in a 4 locked wheels skid passing by, followed by a spinning wheels turn as he came back.
Copper comes storming in and starts shouting at me, speeding through East Tisted, excessive speed during my overtakes etc, as I was the only one with a dayglo vest on, so it had to be me. Within seconds the bloke in front turns on him and tells him to Foxtrot Oscar whilst pulling HIS warrant card out. Much bluster from the local copper and the guy next to him does the same. Local copper stalks off fuming, turns out the three customers waiting are all Special Branch officers out on an area familiarisation ride and one wanted some new gloves for his wife!
The ride back down was punctuated every few miles with various Hampshire Traffic cars waiting for me to pass by, which I did within the limit and with a freindly wave.
End note, the copper a few years later was shooting in a comp. in Portsmouth, back then Hampshire used revolvers, being full of himself when offered 'tyro' (not from/to holster) shooting with the semi auto he refused it, even though he wasn't experienced in shooting a semi...He holstered the gun with his finger in the trigger guard, ended up putting a 9mm bullet down through his leg, as I'd shot with some of his team mates when I'd belonged to the Police pistol club I got the full inside story, they wer glad to be rid of him too!
